Nobody told him:
You saved your mom.
Too much weight.
He was nine.
We told him:
Going to the hospital was the right thing.
Adults helped after that.
He asked:
“If I went sooner, would my stomach not have a hole?”
Avery answered.
“Maybe. We can’t know.”
“Did I make it worse?”
“No.”
“Because I waited?”
“You were scared.”
“That’s not no.”
Avery paused.
Good.
Then:
“The person who made you swallow magnets caused the danger. You did not.”
Noah looked unconvinced.
