Derek was convicted on the principal child-abuse counts tied to the forced magnet ingestion and on domestic-violence assault charges involving Emily.
He was also convicted of endangerment based on failing to seek medical care after learning the danger.
One narrower charge requiring proof of a particular intent did not result in conviction.
No one cheered.
Emily cried.
Megan held her.
Paul Nolan looked tired.
Avery had gone back to work.
I was not in the courtroom that day.
I learned by text between patients.
That felt right.
