Chapter 11 - Vivian’s real role

Vivian had spent days presenting herself as Marcus’s calmer sibling.

She had condemned the slap privately.

Claimed she only wanted to protect Silas.

Said Grant handled technology.

Said Marcus drove the competency strategy.

Now financial records showed Vivian controlled the oldest and most important account.

She stopped cooperating.

Her attorney insisted offshore ownership was legal.

Arthur asked one question.

“Where did the money originate?”

No answer.

The account had received decades of payments connected to contracts Edward Whitmore approved as CFO.

Some legitimate.

Some suspicious.

Vivian inherited administrative control through Margot.

Why Vivian?

Charlotte’s papers supplied the answer.

Vivian was eight when Amelia died.

Charlotte considered her “least influenced by Edward.”

Years later, Margot gave Vivian access because she believed a daughter would preserve Charlotte’s intentions.

Instead, Vivian used the fund.

Not only personally.

She financed Grant’s investments.

Covered Marcus’s failed deals.

Paid Margot’s hidden living expenses.

And funded hospital technology—including the body-camera system.

Elena almost laughed at the irony.

Vivian helped purchase the device that exposed them.

But there was darker evidence.

The $75,000 fake payment to Elena came directly from the old Edward account.

If it had cleared, the nurse-framing scheme would have been financially tied to the hidden fund.

Marcus may have believed they were protecting inheritance.

Vivian knew they were protecting a compromised financial structure.

She knew more.

Silas requested to see her.

Vivian came under attorney supervision.

“Why?”

Silas asked.

She looked tired.

“Because you would destroy the company if you knew.”

“That sounds exactly like what your mother said about Edward.”

Vivian flinched.

“I was trying to protect us.”

“By assaulting a nurse?”

“I didn’t tell Marcus to hit her.”

“You financed the setup.”

Silence.

“Did you know the money was dirty?”

“I knew some of it came from Uncle Edward’s old structures.”

“Did you know how?”

“No.”

“Did you ask?”

Vivian cried.

“No.”

Silas looked at her with devastating disappointment.

“That was the point.”

Not knowing had been useful.

She could enjoy control without naming the source.

Vivian then blamed Margot.

“She told me Mom wanted this.”

“Did you ever see that in Charlotte’s writing?”

“No.”

“Then you chose to believe it.”

Vivian lowered her head.

The same pattern.

Every generation calling obedience protection.

Then Vivian revealed something unexpected.

“Margot isn’t the only one using Mom’s account.”

Silas looked up.

“Who else?”

“I don’t know.”

“Explain.”

Messages occasionally arrived from C.W. that contradicted Margot.

Different tone.

Different instructions.

One warned Vivian not to pressure Silas.

One told her to stop moving money.

One said:

CHARLOTTE DID NOT CREATE A-PROTECTION FOR YOU TO STEAL FROM IT.

Vivian assumed Margot was testing her.

Margot denied sending those messages.

So someone else had access.

Charlotte?

Impossible.

Unless another person retained her credentials.

Evelyn Ward.

Charlotte’s friend and proposed guardian for Amelia.

Could she be using the account?

Grant’s earlier message said Evelyn was alive.

Margot feared her.

Vivian supplied one preserved C.W. message from six months earlier:

WHEN SILAS IS HOSPITALIZED, DO NOT USE HIS ILLNESS TO ACTIVATE THE TRUST.

Vivian stared.

“We ignored it.”

Elena said:

“Clearly.”

Vivian’s eyes hardened.

“You think you understand everything because you wore a camera.”

“No.”

Elena leaned forward.

“I understand you researched my mother, tried to plant money in my account, and stood there while your brother hit me.”

Vivian looked away.

Good.

No easy redemption.

Then C.W. sent a new message to Vivian’s surrendered device.

LIVE.

Real time.

STOP MARGOT BEFORE SHE OPENS CHARLOTTE’S SECOND FILE.

Silas stared.

“Second file?”

Another message:

SHE LIED ABOUT AMELIA.

No one knew whether the sender was Evelyn.

Margot.

Another conspirator.

Or someone exploiting the chaos.

Then a hospital security alert arrived.

Margot had entered the building again.

Using a staff credential.

Destination:

May you like

Silas’s floor.

👉 Vivian admitted a second unknown person had been using Charlotte’s account—and that person now warned Margot was heading toward Silas with another secret about Amelia.
