Chapter 1

Days Before His Wedding Evan Finds His Missing Ex Girlfriend Pushing Triplets With His Gray Eyes And Discovers A Letter From His Own Mother May Have Stolen Four Years Of Their Lives.
Rachel Ames saw Evan Mercer before he saw her.
That gave her exactly three seconds to decide whether to run.
She was on the sidewalk beside Rittenhouse Square, both hands locked around the handle of a black triple stroller. Spring sunlight spilled over the upscale storefronts, green trees, polished windows, and people walking past with shopping bags and coffee cups.
Inside the stroller, three babies sat strapped in matching pale outfits.
The little girl closest to the street looked up first.
Gray eyes.
Evan’s gray eyes.
Rachel’s breath caught.
Then Evan turned.
He stood beside Noelle Stanton outside a boutique café, navy suit fitted perfectly, white shirt open at the collar, dark hair styled, face relaxed in the way men look when life has obeyed them for too long.
Noelle’s hand rested possessively on his arm.
She saw Rachel too.
Her fingers tightened.
Rachel pushed the stroller forward.
Fast.
Not reckless.
Just desperate.
“Rachel?”
Evan’s voice hit her back like a hand.
She kept walking.
Noelle whispered something, but Evan broke from her grip and came after Rachel.
“Rachel, stop.”
She froze.
The babies shifted inside the stroller.
The gray-eyed little girl stared at Evan with open curiosity.
He stopped a few feet behind Rachel, breathing hard, expression torn between disbelief and something much older.
“Are they mine?”
Rachel did not turn at first.
Her hands tightened around the stroller handle until her knuckles whitened.
Then she slowly faced him.
Her eyes filled with years she had swallowed alone.
“You told me never to contact you again.”
Evan shook his head once.
Confusion cracked through him.
“No. I didn’t.”
Noelle stepped between them, smile controlled but eyes panicked.
“Evan, we’re leaving. Now.”
Evan pulled his arm free.
An old cream envelope slipped from Rachel’s partially open diaper bag and landed on the pavement.
Rachel reached for it.
Evan got there first.
Her face went pale.
“That letter came from your mother.”
Noelle’s smile vanished.
Evan rose slowly with the sealed envelope in his hand.
He looked from Rachel to the three babies.
Then to Noelle.
“Nobody leaves until I hear the truth.”
The gray-eyed little girl lifted one tiny hand toward him.

And Evan Mercer realized the wedding waiting for him might have been built over a graveyard of stolen years.
