Chapter 1

Groom Discovers His Bride’s Scars Before Her Stepfather’s Recording Plays at the Wedding.

Liam Sterling found the scars ten minutes before the wedding ceremony.

Audrey Vance stood in the bridal suite with her ivory dress lowered only enough for him to fix a broken clasp near the back. The chandelier glowed above them, white flowers covered the vanity, and faint wedding music drifted up from the estate ballroom below.

Then Liam stopped breathing.

Across Audrey’s back, shoulders, and ribs were old healed scars and fading marks she had hidden beneath lace, posture, and silence.

She turned her tearful face over her shoulder.

Her blue eyes were full of shame she had no reason to carry.

Liam immediately released the fabric.

He did not touch the scars.

He stepped closer only enough to show her he was not backing away.

“Audrey… who did this to you?”

Her hands gripped the front of the dress.

For a moment, she looked like she might apologize for being hurt.

“My stepfather,” she whispered. “He said nobody would believe me.”

Liam’s face changed.

Not with disgust.

With controlled fury.

He lifted the ivory bridal robe from the upholstered bed and wrapped it gently around her shoulders.

Audrey sank onto the edge of the bed, shaking.

Downstairs, guests laughed softly.

Glasses clinked.

The wedding was still moving forward as if the truth had not just entered the room.

Liam knelt in front of her.

“Do you still have his recordings?”

Audrey looked toward the old laptop beside the floral arrangement.

“Yes. He threatened me again tonight.”

Her fingers trembled as she opened it.

A muffled audio fragment played.

Not clear enough for anyone outside the room to understand.

But Liam heard the voice.

Ethan Vance.

Audrey’s stepfather.

The man walking downstairs in a tuxedo, smiling at donors, pretending to give away a bride he had spent years terrifying.

Liam took out his phone and called Sophia Sterling.

His former supervisor.

The woman who still knew how to preserve evidence before powerful men could erase it.

“Sophia, preserve everything connected to Ethan Vance.”

Audrey stared at him.

For the first time, disbelief turned into something almost like hope.

Then the bridal-suite door opened.

Ethan stood there holding a champagne glass.

Smiling.

Until his own recorded voice came from the laptop.

His smile vanished.
