Chapter 7

Ethan recovered fast.
He always had.
His eyes moved from the laptop to Liam’s phone, then toward the hallway, calculating who might hear, who might believe, who could still be influenced.
“Audrey,” he said softly, using the voice he saved for witnesses. “You are upset.”
Liam’s gaze hardened.
“Do not diagnose her.”
Ethan looked at him as though noticing him for the first time.
“This is a family matter.”
“No.”
Liam’s answer was immediate.
“It became an evidence matter when you threatened her tonight.”
Ethan’s face twitched.
Only once.
But Audrey saw it.
The old fear moved through her body.
The part of her trained to apologize before he became worse.
She clutched the robe closed and forced herself to stay seated.
Ethan lowered his voice.
“You do not understand what you are interfering with.”
Liam did not blink.
“I understand enough.”
Ethan looked at Audrey.
“You would ruin your own wedding over old stories?”
Audrey almost folded.
Old stories.
That was what he called scars.
That was what he called recordings.
That was what he called years of terror.
Liam answered before she had to.
“The wedding can wait.”
Ethan’s eyes flashed.
“That is not your decision.”
Audrey lifted her head.
“It is mine.”
Silence.
Ethan stared at her.
For years, she had spoken around him.
Carefully.
Softly.
Safely.
Now her voice filled the room without asking permission.
Sophia’s voice came through Liam’s phone.
“Liam, confirm Ethan Vance is present.”
Liam held the phone steady.
“Confirmed.”
Ethan’s eyes widened.
He had not realized the call was still active.
Audrey watched the exact moment he understood.
This was not a private confrontation.
