Ava gripped her hand.
Celia moved closer.
“I wanted to tell you myself.”
“When?”
“When Lucille was no longer pointing weapons at us?”
“Sofia—”
“Who is my father?”
Celia looked toward Lucille.
The older woman smiled despite the agents surrounding her.
“Now we reach the inheritance Gabriel feared most.”
Celia had been twenty-two when she worked as an architectural modeler for Voss Meridian. Lucille’s husband, Victor Voss, controlled the company then.
He assaulted Celia during a business retreat.
Sofia was conceived afterward.
Gabriel knew before marrying Celia.
He adopted Sofia privately and destroyed the original records to keep Victor from claiming her.
“He was my father,” Sofia said.
“Yes,” Celia replied. “In every way that mattered.”
“Then why did the trust name blood heirs?”
“Gabriel rewrote it.”
The second paragraph confirmed that Sofia remained his legal daughter and chosen successor regardless of biology.
Ava qualified as heir through Sofia’s adoption line.
Lucille had altered the digital system to create doubt.
Victor Voss was Adrian’s father.
That made Sofia and Adrian biological half-siblings.
The penthouse became impossibly quiet.
Sofia looked toward Lucille.
“You knew before the marriage.”
“Yes.”
“You arranged it anyway.”
“I arranged proximity to the trust.”
“You let your son marry his sister.”
“Victor’s children were never raised together.”
Celia struck Lucille before the agents could stop her.
Lucille stumbled.
No one in the room defended her.
Sofia felt physically ill.
Adrian had not known.
His crimes remained his own, but another layer of manipulation surrounded the marriage.
Lucille had reduced every relationship to a mechanism.
Daniel opened Gabriel’s full letter.
The document explained why he embedded surveillance systems throughout Atlas Crown Tower. He knew Lucille would eventually use Sofia’s identity and any future child to seize the property.
He created the falcon vault to expose her.
But Gabriel made one final mistake.
He trusted Victor Voss to help protect Sofia after his death.
Victor supplied the information that led Lucille to the warehouse.
“Victor is dead,” Sofia said.
Lucille’s expression changed.
“Is he?”
Daniel searched current records.
Victor Voss died nine years earlier from a heart condition.
The death certificate was signed by a Voss Meridian physician.
After everything they had uncovered, the document meant almost nothing.
The falcon vault contained live account access connected to a user identified as V.V.
Someone had entered the system that morning.
Miriam looked at Lucille.
“You said Victor never knew about Ava.”
“He didn’t.”
The vault log contradicted her.
Victor’s credentials authorized Ava’s relocation after birth, Celia’s medical imprisonment, and the purchase of the black sedan.
Sofia turned toward Lucille.
“Where is he?”
Lucille said nothing.
Ava’s pendant, now broken, began emitting a faint signal from the floor.
The falcon camera rotated toward the balcony.
A private helicopter hovered beyond the railing.
Its door opened.
An elderly man sat inside.
Victor Voss.
Alive.
He held a second bronze falcon device.
Daniel ordered agents to secure the balcony.
Before they moved, Victor activated his remote.
The tower’s steel shutters dropped again, separating federal agents from Sofia, Ava, Celia, Elise, Miriam, Daniel, and Lucille.
The family remained trapped together inside the penthouse.
Victor’s voice entered through the building speakers.
“Lucille has always mistaken control for ownership.”
Lucille stared toward the helicopter.
“You were supposed to remain hidden.”
“And you were supposed to keep the children manageable.”
Sofia stepped before Ava.
Victor continued.
“Bring me the primary heir.”
Ava looked toward the bronze falcon.
“No.”
Victor smiled from the helicopter.
“I wasn’t speaking about you.”
His gaze shifted toward Elise.
The security system illuminated her name.
PRIMARY VOSS-MARLOWE HEIR: ELISE CELESTE MARLOWE.
Celia gasped.
Elise stepped backward.
