Chapter 14 - THE CONTRACT HANNAH NEVER CHOSENaomi argued that the agreement would never survive modern legal review.

Arthur did not need it to survive permanently.

He needed enough apparent authority to file the Rose-3 patent and transfer the research assets before a court invalidated the contract.

Once the patent entered the pending system, investors could buy rights, shell companies could move the data, and Emma’s biological profile would spread beyond Bellrose.

Hannah ordered federal agents to release the contract publicly with the patient identities sealed.

Bellrose attorneys threatened lawsuits.

She did it anyway.

Survivor organizations immediately recognized similar language in dozens of childhood research agreements.

Families began contacting investigators.

The contract that isolated Hannah became evidence of a larger system.

Arthur reached the trust server at 11:47 p.m.

Thirteen minutes remained before Christmas ended and the patent deadline expired.

Emma watched the police feed from her hospital bed.

“Is he taking my blood?”

“He took a sample,” Hannah said.

“Can I tell him no?”

“Yes.”

“Will he listen?”

“Probably not.”

“Then why does saying no matter?”

“Because everyone else must hear it.”

Emma asked to record a statement.

Dr. Lane ensured she understood the question.

Emma looked into the independent hospital camera.

“My blood is mine. My face is mine. Being hurt does not mean Bellrose owns what my body did afterward.”

The statement reached the trust server.

Arthur paused.

Evelyn had programmed a minor-consent safeguard into Emma’s shares. Any direct refusal from the child automatically froze research transfers for seventy-two hours.

Arthur tried to override it.

The system requested Richard’s founder approval.

Richard stood inside the hospital command room.

His old Bellrose token remained active.

“If I refuse, he may destroy the sample,” Richard said.

Hannah looked at him.

“Then he destroys it.”

“The protein could help burn victims.”

Leah stepped closer.

“Not if the price is another child being taught that pain makes her useful.”

Richard inserted the token.

He selected deny.

For the first time, he chose the child before the company’s future.

The trust server froze.

Arthur smashed the terminal.

The sample remained inside his case.

Police entered the executive floor, but a service elevator carried him toward the underground garage.

Ava knew the route.

She led officers through an abandoned laboratory tunnel while Madeline remained at the hospital.

Naomi contacted Arthur directly.

“Give me the sample.”

“You created the attack to control Bellrose.”

“I created it to force the truth out.”

“You wanted the company.”

“And you wanted the child.”

Their alliance collapsed openly.

Arthur reached the underground loading bay.

A black ambulance waited.

The driver wore Hannah’s red coat.

Ava stopped when she saw the woman’s face.

“Grandma?”

The woman behind the wheel looked exactly like Evelyn.

Richard stared at the security feed.

“My wife is dead.”

The driver opened the ambulance door.

Arthur climbed inside with Emma’s blood.

Before the vehicle left, the woman looked directly toward the camera and removed a silver pendant from her neck.

Evelyn had been buried wearing it.

👉 The supposedly dead grandmother appeared to help Arthur escape with Emma’s stolen blood.
