Mason denied knowing his daughter was a backup subject.
His private messages contradicted him.
He had discussed Lily’s weight, allergies, and bedtime routine with Teresa.
He claimed the information was for a birthday sleepover.
Detective Hayes placed photographs of both hospitalized girls in front of him.
“You supplied medical data for a seven-year-old experiment.”
Mason began crying.
“Teresa said the tracer was harmless.”
“So you allowed it?”
“I thought it would expose the trust fraud.”
“Whose fraud?”
“Evelyn’s.”
Mason believed Evelyn manipulated Robert Whitmore into transferring biotechnology rights to Camille’s bloodline. Teresa told him the children’s enzyme responses would prove the patent originated from Whitmore genetics and belonged to the family company.
Every participant was given a different justification.
Sabrina believed the drink would force recognition.
Charles believed he was preventing a worse dose.
Mason believed he was proving corporate theft.
Corinne believed she was replacing a dangerous compound with a tracer.
Evelyn believed she was creating admissible evidence.
Teresa believed medical control would restore the estate.
No one asked Harper or Lily.
The grandparents who took Lily home were Nolan’s maternal grandparents, Gerald and Betsy Whitmore.
They had remained quiet during the party, eating near the dining-room window and leaving shortly before Harper collapsed.
Gerald founded the biotechnology company whose patents triggered the trust dispute.
He was Robert’s younger brother.
He claimed he knew nothing about the birthday protocol.
Betsy admitted Teresa asked them to take Lily home if she appeared tired.
“Why Lily?” Lauren asked.
“Teresa said Mason and his wife were fighting.”
“Did you know something was in the cupcake?”
“No.”
The pantry footage showed Betsy moving one cupcake from a separate box onto Lily’s plate.
She claimed Corinne handed it to her.
Corinne denied touching the cupcakes.
The camera angle revealed the truth.
An elderly woman in a pale blue dress passed behind Betsy and switched the plates.
She resembled Evelyn after age progression.
Again, Camille’s mother appeared at the center of the act.
Evelyn had prepared two tracer subjects.
Harper carried the Mercer genetic line.
Lily carried the Greer-Whitmore line.
Comparing their blood responses could prove which family owned the enzyme patent.
Evelyn turned children into evidence against Teresa’s corporate fraud.
Her cause may have been exposure.
Her method remained abuse.
Camille released a public statement through Daniel:
“No inheritance, patent, or prosecution justifies secretly testing a child. Anyone who participated will be investigated regardless of which side they claimed to serve.”
The statement disrupted Evelyn’s expected alliance.
Hours later, Evelyn contacted Camille directly.
No disguised voice.
No intermediary.
A video call showed her inside a bright room with no visible windows.
Camille stared at the mother she had mourned.
“You’re alive.”
“Yes.”
“You watched Harper collapse.”
“Yes.”
“You could have stopped it.”
“I replaced Teresa’s original compound.”
“With something else she did not consent to.”
“Yes.”
“Where are you?”
“I will surrender when the archive is secure.”
“You do not control the terms.”
“Teresa still has people inside the hospital.”
Camille looked toward the security officer outside Harper’s room.
“Who?”
Evelyn refused to identify them until Camille opened the final patent document.
“No.”
“If you wait, Teresa will erase the proof.”
“You have used urgency to control everyone around me. It ends now.”
Evelyn’s face changed.
Pride and grief appeared together.
“You sound like me.”
“That is not a compliment.”
Camille ended the call.
Detective Hayes traced it to a mobile medical unit parked beneath St. Catherine’s Hospital.
Officers searched the underground garage.
They found the vehicle empty.
Inside were duplicate staff badges, blood-collection kits, and live feeds from Harper’s room.
One monitor displayed a hospital employee entering the pediatric pharmacy.
The badge belonged to Dr. Patel.
But Dr. Patel was standing beside Camille.
The woman on-screen had Patel’s face.
She removed a medication bag labeled with Harper’s name.
