Chapter 18 - FOUR DAUGHTERS, FOUR STATEMENTS
The four Mercer sisters gave statements separately.
Investigators refused Margaret’s request to gather them around one table.
Shared birth did not make their memories interchangeable.
Camille spoke first.
She described her seventh-birthday collapse, the second girl in the pink dress, months of medical questioning, and the disappearance of Evelyn after the car crash.
She admitted remaining around Teresa despite repeated humiliation because she feared separating Nolan from his parents and being accused of controlling him.
That failure did not make her responsible for the poison.
It showed where family pressure had weakened her boundaries.
Camille had no criminal charge.
Her guardianship of Harper remained intact after independent review confirmed she had sought immediate medical care, cooperated with investigators, rejected the trust transfer, and consistently centered Harper’s safety.
The temporary protective supervision ended.
Harper returned home with Camille and Nolan after the house was cleared of hidden systems.
They did not return to the birthday kitchen immediately.
The family rented another home while investigators processed the property.
Sabrina’s statement followed.
Born Celine Mercer, she had been moved through six placements before Teresa introduced her to the Whitmore family under a fabricated distant-relative history.

Sabrina pleaded guilty to aggravated child endangerment, administering a controlled substance, conspiracy to fabricate parental unfitness, attempted guardianship fraud, and evidence tampering.
She did not receive immunity for identifying Teresa or Ellis.
Her childhood coercion, cooperation, and lack of knowledge about the stabilizing polymer reduced the sentence.
Her direct action against Harper increased it.
She received a substantial custodial term followed by restrictions preventing her from working with children, medical records, guardianships, or family trusts.
At sentencing, she addressed Camille.
“I believed you had the childhood taken from me.”
“I did have more safety,” Camille answered. “That did not mean I stole yours.”
“I know.”
“Do you?”
“I know now that Teresa trained me to treat your happiness as evidence against you.”
Harper submitted no statement.
No adult asked the child to determine her aunt’s punishment.
Years later, Sabrina sent one letter through an approved family counselor.
Harper chose not to read it.
Corinne’s statement came next.
She had been Subject Three inside Meadowridge.
At seven, she warned Sabrina not to drink.
At fourteen, she began training younger children.
At twenty-five, she became a planner.
Before Harper’s party, she entered the school under a false name, collected biological samples, trained Harper to complete the lemonade game, impersonated Teresa, removed the antidote from Charles’s bag, stole the archive, and entered the hospital under Dr. Patel’s identity.
She argued that she removed the antidote because she believed Charles intended to use it to frame Sabrina.
The belief came from Teresa and Ellis.
Corinne had possessed opportunities to contact Camille or authorities.
She chose control.
She pleaded guilty to child endangerment, unlawful medical testing, identity fraud, obstruction, evidence theft, and conspiracy to manipulate guardianship.
She was not convicted of administering the sedative directly.
She received a long custodial sentence, shorter than Ellis’s or Teresa’s but longer than Sabrina’s because she had spent years designing operations around other children.
Her cooperation exposed dozens of Meadowridge cases.
That helped victims.
It did not erase the children trained before Harper.
Corinne requested the legal name Corinne Evelyn Mercer after sentencing.
Camille objected to nothing.
Evelyn’s name belonged to history as well as harm.
Cassandra spoke last.
Her legal identity had never been completed.
She possessed birth records under six names, none valid continuously.
DNA established she was the fourth genetically identical Mercer sister.
Margaret had originally named her Cassandra.
She chose to retain it.
Cassandra Margaret Mercer.
The middle name surprised Camille.
“Why keep Margaret?”
“She controlled most of my life,” Cassandra said. “Removing her name would not remove that history. Keeping it does not mean I approve of her.”
Cassandra pleaded guilty to child endangerment, unlawful surveillance, impersonation, obstruction, and coercive interference with the investigation.
She had installed the hidden speaker.
Used Camille’s voice.
Directed Harper to drink.
Demanded Camille enter the house.
She had also preserved evidence, surrendered the cup, saved the consent drive, and helped expose Ellis.
She received limited custody followed by intensive supervision and a permanent prohibition against undercover medical, child, or identity operations.
The sisters’ first voluntary meeting occurred two years later.
No cameras.
No attorneys.
No matching clothing.
Camille arrived first.
Sabrina participated by secure prison call because she was not eligible to leave custody.
Corinne declined.
Cassandra sat across from Camille.
For several minutes, neither knew what to say.
Sabrina broke the silence.
“Do we call ourselves quadruplets?”
Camille answered:
“Biologically.”
Cassandra added:
“That does not tell anyone what we are now.”
They discussed medical history.
Cassandra revealed the scar beneath their ears came from tracker implantation during their seventh-birthday processing. Camille’s implant had been removed secretly by Evelyn after the experiment, but Evelyn told her it was an inflamed cyst.
Sabrina’s implant had stopped transmitting years earlier.
Corinne’s remained active until her arrest.
Doctors removed it under informed consent.
The women shared identical scars produced by different degrees of knowledge and fear.
No instant sisterhood emerged.
Camille wanted accountability before closeness.
Cassandra wanted a life not defined by observing Camille.
Sabrina wanted forgiveness she understood she could not request.
Corinne wanted no family meeting while she still suspected every emotional invitation might be another assignment.
They agreed on one thing.
