Chapter 7 - Tyler’s Missing SummerTyler was ten when he disappeared from family photographs for an entire summer.

Jennifer told relatives he attended a wilderness camp.

Tyler remembered no mountains.

He remembered white walls.

Medication.

A doctor asking whether Robert ever frightened him.

Whenever Tyler answered yes, Jennifer sat beside the bed and reminded him that fathers went to prison when boys lied.

Eventually, Tyler changed his answer.

Dr. Harrow praised him.

Detective Brooks found the corresponding file in Robert’s cabinet.

T-10: Loyalty stabilization successful.

Tyler read it in the hospital interview room.

His hands shook.

“I thought it was therapy.”

“It was conditioning,” Lena said.

He had been injured before entering Mountain Crest.

A healed fracture along his upper arm suggested someone twisted it violently.

Tyler had always believed he broke it at camp.

The memory card showed otherwise.

Jennifer stood over him in the lake-house kitchen. Robert held a camera. Tyler was crying because he had seen Jennifer push Olivia against the floor.

“You misunderstood,” Jennifer said.

“No.”

“Say Olivia slipped.”

“No.”

Robert stepped behind the camera.

The recording ended.

The next file showed Tyler at Mountain Crest wearing a sling.

Dr. Harrow asked what happened.

Tyler answered:

“I fell from a climbing wall.”

He had become the family’s favored child not because he escaped abuse.

He had become useful earlier.

Robert trained him to repeat the official story.

Jennifer rewarded him for protecting her.

Whenever Olivia resisted, Tyler was told she threatened the family’s survival.

“You still made choices,” Lena said.

“I know.”

“Being manipulated does not erase what you did to Olivia.”

“I know.”

He requested permission to speak with his sister.

Olivia refused.

Tyler accepted the answer.

Instead, he recorded a full statement.

He described the dock incident when Olivia was fourteen. Robert ordered him to shove her into the water after she found a company ledger. She struck the wooden edge before falling in.

Tyler pulled her out.

Robert told everyone she slipped.

Dr. Harrow arrived that night and wrapped her torso.

Olivia’s lower thoracic fracture likely came from that impact.

“What happened to the ledger?” Marcus Lee asked.

“Dad burned the pages.”

“Why?”

“They showed payments to families after children were injured at company properties.”

Mercer Development faced multiple construction-safety complaints. Robert settled cases privately, then directed vulnerable families toward doctors and guardianship attorneys tied to Harrow.

Arthur’s trust was not the only motive.

Olivia had repeatedly discovered evidence of a larger fraud network.

Tyler also revealed that Robert kept a backup server beneath the lake-house boathouse.

Police searched the structure.

Behind a false fuel cabinet, they found a climate-controlled room containing drives, medical charts, and surveillance footage.

One camera feed remained live.

It showed Olivia’s protected hospital corridor.

Someone had access to the hospital security system.

A man wearing medical scrubs stood near her room with his face turned away.

Tyler stared at the image.

“That’s Harrow.”

Lena looked at him.

“How can you tell?”

“The way he holds his left hand. Two fingers don’t bend.”
