Chapter 5 - THE DEATH CERTIFICATE DATED TOMORROWFederal agents entered Blackwell Reproductive Health at 4:18 a.m.

The public clinic occupied the first five floors of the foundation building. Its brochures advertised fertility support, neonatal research, and assistance for families with high-risk pregnancies.

The sixth floor did not appear on elevator controls.

Agents found the hidden access behind an employee pharmacy.

Inside were three private recovery rooms, a nursery, a document laboratory, and locked cabinets containing hundreds of birth certificates.

Some belonged to real children.

Others described infants who had never existed.

Maya joined Clara through a secure hospital call.

“We found a newborn boy receiving proper medical care. He appears stable.”

“Who is his mother?”

“We don’t know yet.”

The infant’s wrist bracelet carried Chloe’s name.

The birth certificate named Julian as father.

Both were false.

A second document assigned the baby an amended identity if required:

Child of Clara Arden Blackwell.

The scheme was designed to survive multiple outcomes.

If Clara signed away the founder rights, the infant would be Chloe’s son and Julian’s preferred heir.

If Clara refused and later became medically incapacitated, the same child could be registered as hers under Julian’s guardianship.

If Clara’s daughter was born safely, the family planned to challenge paternity and use the boy as the “legitimate” founder descendant.

A child had been converted into a movable legal identity.

Clara felt fury replace fear.

“He has a real mother.”

“We’re tracing her.”

The clinic database listed a surrogate named Maria Santos, but the address belonged to a vacant lot.

The medical photographs did not match the woman who delivered the baby.

Security footage had been erased.

Agents recovered one audio clip from the operating suite.

A woman repeatedly asked where her child was.

A male physician told her the infant had not survived.

The same baby now slept beneath Chloe’s name.

The clinic had stolen him.

Clara turned away from the screen.

Julian’s family had not only targeted her child. They had taken another woman’s baby to strengthen the fraud.

A nurse entered Clara’s room carrying new consent forms.

“Dr. Lowell wants authorization for continuous fetal monitoring and emergency intervention.”

Clara read every page.

The first two were standard.

The third appointed Julian as temporary medical decision-maker if Clara became sedated.

She looked up.

“Who added this?”

The nurse went pale.

“It was part of the packet.”

Maya took the document.

The digital signature belonged to Dr. Evan Lowell, Clara’s obstetrician.

He had treated her throughout the pregnancy and repeatedly assured her that her records remained private.

Federal agents detained Lowell inside the hospital parking garage.

He claimed his credentials were stolen.

Then investigators found a draft death certificate on his tablet.

Infant Female Blackwell.

Cause: pregnancy trauma.

Date of death: tomorrow.

Clara gripped the blanket.

No final medical outcome had occurred.

Yet the Blackwell system had already decided what would be written.

Lowell requested counsel.

Maya’s team searched his office and found payments from New Legacy Families totaling eight hundred thousand dollars.

He admitted providing Clara’s medical records to Beatrice.

He denied intending harm.

“I was told the documents were contingency planning.”

Maya leaned across the table.

“You prepared a death certificate for a living unborn child.”

“I never filed it.”

“You created the weapon and are arguing about who pulled the trigger.”

Lowell revealed that Julian scheduled a private transfer for Clara after the baby shower. If she appeared emotionally unstable or suffered an injury, she would be moved from St. Catherine’s to the Blackwell clinic.

There, her records could be controlled.

The confrontation was never meant to end in the ballroom.

The mansion attack was supposed to begin a medical abduction.

The cracked watch and federal raid prevented it.

Clara looked toward the hallway outside her protected room.

A hospital orderly stood near the agents, holding a wheelchair that no one had requested.

Maya noticed him simultaneously.

The orderly abandoned the chair and ran.

Agents stopped him at the stairwell.

Inside the wheelchair cushion they found sedatives, forged discharge papers, and a Blackwell clinic access badge.

The name printed on it was Nathan Arden.

👉 The clinic had prepared Clara’s baby’s death certificate before any medical outcome, while an attempted hospital abduction used identification belonging to her dead father.
