Chapter 7 - BLUE CRADLEJulian requested a confidential conversation.

He remained under federal restriction inside a guarded guesthouse on the Blackwell property. No final charges had been decided, but he could not access company systems or contact witnesses without supervision.

Clara agreed to speak through secure video.

Julian appeared without his jacket. A bruise marked his wrist where agents had restrained him after he tried to seize a phone during the raid.

He looked angry about the bruise.

Clara sat bandaged in a hospital chair, one hand resting over her belly.

“Why did you write ‘during’?” she asked.

Julian’s expression shifted.

“You saw the file.”

“Yes.”

“My father told me the founder trust transferred at birth. I suggested stopping the registration during delivery.”

“Stopping how?”

“Delaying the certificate.”

“You prepared a death certificate.”

“I didn’t.”

“Your doctor did.”

“I never asked anyone to harm the baby.”

“You hit her through my body.”

Julian looked away.

The silence admitted what words could not.

He claimed the original plan involved a court order. Clara would be declared temporarily incapable during labor. Julian would become medical proxy and sign an emergency trust acknowledgment before the birth registration completed.

The replacement infant from Blue Cradle would later be introduced as his recognized son.

Clara’s daughter would remain biologically his child but lose the founder designation through manipulated records.

“What would happen to her?” Clara asked.

“She would still be raised safely.”

“By whom?”

Julian did not answer.

The family planned to separate Clara from her daughter.

Perhaps permanently.

“Did Chloe know?”

“She knew about the public heir claim. Not the child exchange.”

“Did Beatrice?”

“She designed it.”

“Arthur?”

“He created Blue Cradle.”

Julian explained that his father discovered the first phantom-heir scheme while advising a wealthy client decades earlier. A family without a surviving descendant created a false birth to prevent assets from transferring to charity.

Arthur refined the method.

He purchased clinics.

Bribed registrars.

Placed attorneys inside probate courts.

Created living children with altered identities when paper heirs were not enough.

The profits funded Blackwell Meridian’s expansion.

Clara’s father learned of the program after the company had already grown.

“Nathan wanted to expose it,” Julian said.

“Then why is his identity receiving money?”

“Because my father turned him into the most useful phantom account in the system.”

After Nathan disappeared, Arthur kept his banking profile active. Nathan’s founder status allowed transfers that required both original partners.

Arthur used reconstructed video calls, forged biometrics, and compromised bankers.

The active Nathan Arden client might not prove he was alive.

It proved Arthur could make a dead man authorize billions.

“Where is the blue ledger?” Clara asked.

Julian leaned closer.

“Martin has it.”

“You know that?”

“He told me.”

“When?”

“Before the shower.”

Martin contacted Julian anonymously and offered the ledger in exchange for protection. He claimed Arthur planned to eliminate everyone connected to Blue Cradle once the founder transfer was complete.

“Why didn’t you tell the FBI?”

“Because the ledger also contains my name.”

Clara almost laughed.

Julian wanted protection from evidence while actively participating in the crimes it documented.

“Where did Martin go?”

“He said he would take the ledger to Nathan.”

Clara’s breath stopped.

“Alive?”

“That’s what he believed.”

Julian offered the location of Martin’s emergency storage unit in exchange for Clara asking prosecutors to consider his cooperation.

“I will tell them you spoke,” she said. “I will not bargain away what you did.”

“I’m the father of your child.”

“You remembered that after federal agents entered.”

Julian’s face hardened.

“I can still challenge the trust.”

“The assault triggered forfeiture.”

“Only if the recording is accepted.”

Clara held up the cracked watch.

“It already was.”

For the first time, he understood the trust freeze had not waited for a courtroom.

His founder rights were gone before the ambulance arrived.

Maya’s team searched Martin’s storage unit.

They found copies of the blue ledger, a bag containing Nathan’s old passports, and a wall covered in photographs of Clara.

One photograph had been taken inside her hospital room that morning.

Martin was close enough to reach her.

Beside the photographs lay an ultrasound image marked with a handwritten name:

Eleanor Arden.

Clara had not selected a name for her daughter.

Her father had written one before disappearing.

👉 Julian exposed Blue Cradle’s plan to steal Clara’s daughter’s identity, while Martin’s hidden files showed Nathan had named the unborn child years before the pregnancy existed.
