Ruby received compensation for kidnapping, identity instability, and medical coercion. A professional trust managed funds until adulthood, but the document contained no condition requiring her to become a protector, journalist, heir, or witness.
At sixteen, she asked:
“Can I use part for art school?”
“Yes,” the trustee said.
“Does Celeste’s conviction affect it?”
“No.”
“Does Daniel’s inheritance?”
“No.”
“Does Jade approve?”
“No approval required.”
Ruby smiled.
The money belonged to her life rather than a role.
The original Harrow voting rights tied to Arthur’s children were canceled after courts found the underlying ownership fraudulent. Jade and Leonard received no special control.
They retained individual compensation and lawful inheritances unrelated to the stolen network.
Miranda challenged the cancellation once, arguing Arthur’s marriage had made her a good-faith descendant.
Her attorney explained she could claim personal assets Arthur lawfully owned, not property he stole from Pearl or patients.
Miranda withdrew the claim.
Jade noticed.
“You could have fought longer.”
“I spent my life treating continuation as proof I was right.”
“Why stop?”
“Because I asked whether winning would give me anything except another room where you hated me.”
The answer did not restore trust.
