Michael had belonged to it.
He believed Charles died in the plane crash.

“Why didn’t you tell Nora?” Malcolm asked.
“Because Charles designed the cells so no investigator knew the others.”
Nora looked furious.
“You carried a private allegiance into federal investigations.”
“I carried a dead man’s emergency protocol.”
Avery signed.
Did my father hide evidence from me?
Michael answered carefully.
“He believed the company board monitored you through Vanessa.”
Vanessa flinched.
Charles knew his older daughter’s financial access made her vulnerable to Lucas’s influence. He kept Archive Zero secret from both sisters.
Avery built the architecture without knowing the full network operating inside it.
Her father used her invention to protect witnesses.
He also used her without informed consent.
Michael opened the message.
It contained coordinates.
A private rehabilitation estate in Vermont.
The property belonged to a trust controlled by Sloan Adaptive Technologies before Vanessa’s resignation was accepted.
A live medical record showed one resident.
Charles Sloan.
Nora assembled an independent team to reach the estate.
Avery insisted on viewing the operation remotely.
Vanessa demanded to go.
She was refused.
“You financed the attack,” Nora said. “You are not joining a rescue.”
“He is my father.”
“And Avery is your sister.”
The distinction silenced her.
Before the team departed, the hospital received a corporate legal order transferring Avery into Meridian’s care.
Dr. Mercer claimed Avery’s experimental devices created cybersecurity risks for the hospital and that Sloan’s new management had authority over the prototypes inside the room.
The order carried a valid judicial seal.
Judge Harrison Cole had approved it remotely.
Nora checked his financial records.
Cole’s wife served on Meridian’s charitable board.
The conspiracy controlled the corporate vote, medical transfer, and emergency court order.
Avery’s room became the only location still partially under her control.
She opened the evidence folder.
Inside was a printed photograph she had never placed there.
It showed Charles Sloan standing beside Dr. Mercer and Lucas Wren at the Vermont estate.
The date was two months earlier.
Charles did not appear imprisoned.
He was smiling.
On the back, someone had written:

Vanessa stared at the image.
“Dad created this?”
Avery did not know.
The door alarm sounded.
