Margaret’s signature appeared at the bottom.
Paul Hart approved the interstate movement.
A private ambulance took Sophie south during the night.
The destination field was blank.
Wintermere’s director insisted Sophie was unstable and dangerous.
Anna Briggs provided a copy of Sophie’s actual file.
She had no violent history.

Sophie had discovered Vanessa’s name.

Control the first medical or psychological evaluation.
Obtain an emergency order before the accused parent could respond.
Then offer to make the problem disappear in exchange for property, voting rights, or silence.
Sophie’s case had been the first Delaney family test.
Lily was intended to be the largest.
Daniel found a message from Mark dated two weeks earlier.
Daniel will leave after Margaret provokes Emily. Place the financial folder behind Vanessa’s clothes so he discovers it.
Daniel stared at the screen.
“They wanted me to find the folder.”
Rachel leaned closer.
“Why?”
Another message provided the answer.
Once Daniel removes the originals, report him for stealing protected case documents. His possession authenticates the transfer narrative.
The folder was bait.
Margaret needed Daniel to carry forged records outside the mansion. She could then accuse him of evidence theft and claim he was preparing to flee with Lily.
Vanessa may have believed she was hiding leverage.
Mark used her hiding place to construct a trap.
Rachel contacted police and arranged formal transfer of the entire folder into evidence.
Daniel documented when and where he discovered it.
The family could still accuse him.
They could no longer pretend the records appeared mysteriously.
Emily examined the photographs.

Ordinary moments had been framed as infidelity, addiction, and instability.
“They have been following us for months,” Emily said.
Lily removed one headphone.
“Was the gray car following us too?”
Daniel turned.
“What gray car?”
“The one at school. The lady took pictures when Mommy hugged Mr. Ben.”
Mr. Ben was Lily’s teacher.
The photographer was visible in the folder’s background.
Anna identified her as Linda Hart, Paul’s wife.
The surveillance operation involved the deputy director’s family.
Sarah obtained a warrant for Paul’s consulting office.
The office was empty.
Hard drives had been removed.
A wall safe contained child passports, blank medical forms, and sealed envelopes of cash.
One passport belonged to Sophie.
Another belonged to Lily.
Lily’s photograph had been altered to show darker hair and a different surname.
A flight reservation was attached.
Departure: December 27.
Destination: Montreal.
Margaret did not plan only to obtain emergency custody.
She intended to move Lily out of the country before Daniel and Emily could challenge the order.
The burner phone rang.
Margaret’s voice filled the hotel room.
“Bring me the folder, the phone, and Emily’s hairpin.”
“Where is Sophie?” Daniel asked.
“Safe.”
“Where is Lily’s passport?”
“With someone who can still use it.”
Daniel looked toward his daughter.
“What do you want?”
“Your shares.”
“And if I refuse?”
Margaret’s voice became cold.
“Then Child Protective Services arrives before breakfast, and the world learns your wife injured herself while abusing your daughter.”
“You were recorded striking Emily.”
“The mansion cameras malfunctioned.”
“Lily saw you.”
“Children remember what adults teach them to say.”
Margaret disconnected.
Seconds later, someone knocked on the hotel door.
A man identified himself as a county child-protection investigator.
