Chapter 10 - THE TRENCH WAS DUG BEFORE I PACKED

Ryan dug the trench Friday morning.
I packed Saturday morning.
That seemed to weaken the idea he dug it specifically to bury me.
Good.
Truth matters even when less dramatic.
Then landscaping invoices surfaced.
He had ordered irrigation repair Wednesday.
Contractor scheduled Monday.
Why dig Friday himself?
He told his employee:
“I’ll expose the line.”
Normal enough.
Ben’s camera showed Ryan working.
At one point he measured the trench.
Again, normal.
No premeditated grave proven.
Prosecutors did not call it one.
He used an existing trench during the confrontation.
Still horrifying.
Different from planning murder.
I needed that distinction because rage made me want every possibility to become fact.
Dana kept saying:
“Strong cases get stronger when they surrender weak claims.”
May you like
I hated the phrase.
She was right.
