Chapter 11 - MY OWN BAD DECISION

I had planned to leave safely.
Then ruined my own plan.
Three days before the garden, I met a domestic-violence advocate named Tessa Moore.
She asked:
“Does Ryan know?”
“No.”
“Keep it that way until you are physically safe.”
Good advice.
I arranged:
Megan’s house.
Spare keys.
Documents copied.
Medication.
Hospital bag.
Baby clothes.
Attorney consultation.
Then Friday evening I opened the bank letter.
Saw my signature.
Saw the bridge loan.
I confronted Ryan.
Not fully.
I said:
“I know what you did.”
His face changed.
He asked:
“What do you know?”
I refused.
Then went upstairs.
The next morning I packed.
Instead of leaving immediately, I told myself I needed the original bank paperwork from his office.
Evidence.
I went looking.
Ryan came home early.
Then:
“Let’s talk outside.”
I followed because my phone was recording.
Because I thought evidence would protect me.
Tessa later said:
“You were trying to regain control.”
Yes.
I also put myself in danger.

That did not make Ryan’s violence mine.
It did mean my future choices needed less pride and more safety.
