She entered a cooperation meeting.
Denise admitted Blue Ridge had been created to move money.
At first, she believed it was temporary bookkeeping around legitimate projects.
Later, she learned Mark used some funds for personal debt.
She objected.
He promised repayment.
She stayed.
Friday:
Mark called.
“He said Eli found the Ridgeway files and attacked Dad.”
When Denise arrived, she saw immediately that description was incomplete.
Eli was injured.
Charles and Mark were furious.
She told them to call me.
They refused.
Then she allowed herself to be pulled into:
five more minutes.
then:
after we get the password.
then:
after Eli calms down.
She brought water.
Ice.
A towel.
She also carried Eli’s backpack upstairs at Mark’s request.
She knew Mark wanted to search it.
She did not stop him.
Then she heard the plan to move Eli.
She said no.
But she still did not call police.
Why?
“My children.”
Meaning her two children with Mark.
She feared their father going to prison.
Home lost.
Business collapsing.
She decided delaying for another hour protected them.
