Chapter 17 - THE BANK MEETINGWhy were Charles and Mark so terrified of Monday?

Carter Building Supply’s bank had requested supporting documents for expense classifications tied to the revolving line.
Not because investigators were already onto them.
Routine review plus some ratios that looked wrong.
Mark knew Blue Ridge invoices would draw questions.
If the bank treated payments as undisclosed related-party transactions and certain transferred expenses correctly, the business’s covenant compliance looked worse.
Could the bank immediately close the company?
Probably not.
Could it freeze expansion, demand more collateral, reduce the line, or require restructuring?
Yes.
Mark’s real-estate side investment was already failing.
Charles had personally guaranteed part of the business line.
He had also pledged a rental property.
Panic.
Not ruin necessarily.
Panic.
Eli’s copied invoices threatened to bring me in.
I had spent years in the business.
I knew the minority owners.
I knew the bank manager.
Charles believed I would blow everything open before Monday.
May you like
He was right about one thing.
After seeing Eli injured, I would have.
