Henry changed every lock.
Not symbolically.
Practically.
Medication moved into a secured container.
Spare key access changed.
Pharmacy pickup authorization revised.
He asked his physician to review what remained necessary.
Good.
No family member independently managed leftover medication.
Patricia created a list.
Henry complained:
“I feel like a nursing home.”
She answered:
“You lost pills.”
He stopped complaining.
Henry also joined a family support group for relatives of people with addiction.
At first he hated it.
“Everyone speaks in slogans.”
Then six months later:
“I learned rescuing somebody from consequences is not the same as helping.”
He said it like he invented it.
Families.
I let him.
His relationship with Megan remained.
Structured.
No cash.
No unsupervised access to controlled medication.
No pretending relapse had not happened.
