No dramatic nationwide manhunt.
An alert to locate and check welfare.
Contact through family.
Her employer said she had called out sick.
Her bank card was used at a gas station ninety miles south.
Robert called repeatedly.
No answer.
Henry called.
No answer.
Patricia cried.
I felt nothing toward Megan at first.
That scared me.
Not hatred.
Emptiness.
Aunt Megan had painted Lucas’s bedroom when I was pregnant.
Bought him his first bicycle.
Let him put glitter on her face at preschool family day.
