The place Carla and Louis had toured was called Meadowbrook Commons.
Independent living.
Assisted living available later.
Not a nursing home.
Not a locked memory unit.
That correction mattered.
A one-bedroom apartment.
Dining room.
Transportation.
Activities.
Monthly cost:
Around $4,200 depending on services.
Too expensive for me unless I sold or rented the house.
Hearthstone had discussed exactly that.
Their preliminary planning notes, obtained after Carla authorized release under pressure from Dan’s letter, suggested:
Potential home sale to support transition.
There it was.
Not a secret sale already underway.
A projected funding strategy.
Carla had told the consultant:
“Louis will probably manage the house.”
Louis claimed he thought that meant:
Help me sell if I chose.
Carla admitted she hoped:
Once I moved, I would let them stay in the house while it was prepared for sale.
Then possibly purchase it below market later.
No contract.
No forged deed.
No secret closing.
