PART 6

Vanessa was the first person to remove her wedding veil.

Not dramatically.

Not angrily.

With dignity.

She stepped away from the altar and looked at Emma.

“Did you know he was getting married?”

Emma nodded.

“Yes.”

“Did you come to stop the wedding?”

Emma looked at the children.

“I came because Victor tried to erase them.”

Vanessa turned toward Victor.

Something in her face changed.

She was not heartbroken anymore.

She was listening.

Victor tried to regain the room.

“This woman accepted one hundred and twenty million dollars.”

Guests gasped again.

Emma did not deny it.

“Yes.”

“I did.”

Ethan flinched.

Emma looked directly at him.

“Every dollar went into an irrevocable trust for them.”

She gestured to the children.

“Medical care.”

“Security.”

“Lawyers.”

“Because your father told me he would take them if I refused.”

Victor laughed sharply.

“Absurd.”

Grace Holloway stepped from the side aisle.

She had been waiting near the back with a tablet and two sealed folders.

“It is not absurd.”

Her voice carried.

“It is recorded.”

The ballroom shifted.

Victor’s face tightened.

“You are trespassing.”

Grace smiled politely.

“At a wedding venue rented through a foundation currently named in a trust dispute.”

“I am exactly where your paperwork brought me.”

Ethan stared at her.

“Who are you?”

“Emma’s attorney.”

Grace handed him a sealed envelope.

“DNA results.”

“Filed copies.”

“Payment agreement.”

“Threat recording transcript.”

Ethan took the envelope like it weighed more than stone.

Victor lunged toward him.

“Do not open that.”

That was the moment everyone understood.

Ethan opened it.

His hands shook as he read.

Noah Harrison.

Probability of paternity.

Lily Harrison.

Ava Harrison.

Caleb Harrison.

Four names.

Four results.

Four lives stolen from him.

Ethan looked at Emma.

She was crying now.

Silently.

The children stood close to her, confused by adult pain but feeling its size.

Ethan whispered, “You named them Harrison?”

Emma nodded.

“On their medical records.”

“Not publicly.”

“But I never let him take your name from them.”

Ethan covered his mouth.
