Chapter 1 - The Slap in the Penthouse

Paralyzed Father Secretly Streams His Son’s Abuse to Twelve Senior Partners Before the Penthouse Elevator Opens.

Liam Vale leaned over his father’s wheelchair like the penthouse already belonged to him.

The Manhattan skyline burned bright beyond the tall windows.

Marble flooring reflected the daylight.

Black garbage bags lay open across the luxury living room while framed family photographs disappeared into them one by one.

Mr. Vale sat in the wheelchair with his silver hair neatly combed, thin metal-framed glasses resting on his bruised face, and both hands lying still over his navy quarter-zip sweater.

He looked weak.

That was what Liam saw.

That was what Liam needed to see.

“You’re going to Ohio. This penthouse is ours now.”

Then Liam slapped him.

The sound cracked through the room.

Mr. Vale’s head turned with the force, but he did not cry out.

Amber did not even stop packing.

She stood near the marble table in her cream blouse, gold jewelry flashing as she shoved another framed photograph into a black garbage bag.

A picture of Liam’s late mother vanished beneath plastic.

“Throw the photographs away. He won’t need memories.”

Mr. Vale slowly faced forward.

His eyes remained calm behind the glasses.

Then he blinked twice.

Deliberate.

Precise.

A tiny green reflection appeared inside one lens.

Liam did not notice.

Amber did not notice.

The concealed encrypted camera inside Mr. Vale’s glasses had already awakened.

Liam gripped the wheelchair handles and began turning him toward the entrance.

“You should be grateful I found somewhere to put you.”

A phone on the marble table vibrated.

Liam stopped.

He grabbed it impatiently.

Before he could speak, Evelyn Hargrove’s controlled voice filled the penthouse through the speaker.

“Liam, the partnership committee witnessed everything.”

Liam’s hand began to tremble.

Amber froze with another photograph halfway inside the bag.

Then the private elevator chimed.

The doors began to open.

Evelyn stood inside with several investigators, folders in hand.

Liam turned toward his father, panic replacing every trace of arrogance.

“What did you do?”

Mr. Vale only lifted his eyes.

Silent.

Knowing.
