Chapter 13 - The Crown RoomThe maintenance ladder opened behind the quarry pumping station.

Rainwater ran across the concrete floor.
Rachel contacted the state command unit and requested a rescue team, but the Crown Room’s location beneath the lake made a forced entry dangerous.
Edmund controlled the floodgates.
A wrong breach could drown Claire and destroy the evidence.
Caleb wanted to return through the tunnel.
Mason stopped him.
“You won’t reach the door before he floods it.”
“He’s my father.”
“He raised you as leverage.”
“He still expects me to obey.”
“That may be useful,” Ava said.
Caleb looked at her.
She formed a plan.
The portable Bennett server contained the property-reversion override Edmund wanted. Ava would bring it to the transfer slot.
Caleb would enter as the Ashford heir willing to cooperate.
Julian would approach from the public quarry entrance, creating a second distraction.
Julian’s expression hardened.
“You want me to pretend I still care about inheriting.”
“You don’t have to pretend.”
The accusation remained fair.
He accepted it.
Rachel prepared a live evidence transmission. Any words Edmund spoke would stream to independent state servers.
Ava attached a microphone beneath her torn dress.
Mason objected to her entering while pregnant.
Ava answered quietly.
“I am not giving him my child’s future because he made danger the price of resistance.”
No one argued again.
She and Caleb approached the Crown Room through the dry service bridge.
A steel window revealed Claire seated beside the original trust ledgers. Edmund stood behind her holding the white hunting umbrella.
He had recovered it from the library.
Dr. Voss waited near a medical cart.
A consent form lay open.
MATERNAL INCAPACITY CERTIFICATION.
If Ava refused to sign the deed, Voss would declare her mentally unstable. Edmund would seek emergency authority over her pregnancy and property.
The plan was bureaucratic violence wearing medical language.
Edmund opened the outer door.
“Ava.”
She held up the server.
“Release my mother.”
“Sign first.”
Caleb entered behind her.
“I’ll take the succession.”
Edmund studied him.
“You failed to stop the archive.”
“I understand the family now.”
“Do you?”
Caleb looked toward Claire without showing emotion.
“You preserve whoever can carry control forward.”
Edmund smiled.
“That is the first intelligent thing you’ve said.”
Claire understood Caleb was performing.
She lowered her eyes.
Ava placed the server inside the transfer slot.
Edmund connected it to the Crown Room console.
The reversion deed appeared.
He entered his founder code.
Ava’s signature field opened.
Julian’s voice suddenly came through the public intercom.
“Father.”
Edmund turned toward the external camera.
Julian stood at the quarry entrance holding Charles Ashford’s original hunting rifle.
“I know who my father was.”
“Charles was weak.”
“He died in a hunting accident.”
“He challenged the succession.”
Julian’s face changed.
“You killed him.”
“I corrected an instability.”
The confession streamed to Rachel’s evidence channel.
Eleanor’s cruelty, Claire’s disappearance, Amelia’s removal, Charles’s death—the family’s accidents had all been corrections.
Edmund realized too late that he was being recorded.
He reached for the flood control.
Caleb caught his wrist.
Claire drove the umbrella’s metal tip into the console.
Sparks erupted.
Dr. Voss tried to inject Ava with a syringe.
She struck the medical cart into him.
Mason and state officers breached the side door as the flood alarm began.
No final arrest occurred. Edmund remained moving, fighting toward the original ledgers.
Ava pulled Claire away from the water channel.
Caleb held Edmund against the console.
Then Eleanor entered through the rear service door.
She had escaped Thomas’s guard using an old family passage.
She carried the missing Lantern Nine drive.
“Let him go,” she said.
Everyone froze.
Edmund looked at her.
“You always were loyal when it mattered.”
Eleanor smiled.
“Not to you.”
She threw the drive into the transfer console.
The system began uploading the complete history of Ravenscourt’s hunts.
Then she pressed the flood control.
Claire stared at her.
“You’ll drown all of us.”
Eleanor looked toward Edmund.
“That is the first honest family decision I’ve made.”

Water exploded through the lower gates.
👉 Eleanor released the hidden archive but activated the flood system, trapping the entire Ashford family inside the Crown Room.
