He did not embrace him.
“Why didn’t you come home?”
Adrian removed the false hospital badge.
“Because Father ordered my death.”
“He died six years ago.”
“His network didn’t.”
“You let me become him.”
Adrian’s expression tightened.
“I watched you choose him.”
Marcus struck the wall beside Adrian’s head.
Deputies moved immediately.
Emily heard the impact from inside her room.
“Not here,” she called.
Both brothers froze.
Even in labor risk, Emily refused to let men turn her hospital corridor into another stage for their pain.
Adrian surrendered to investigators and gave a full statement.
Laura helped him escape after the boat incident. Eleanor provided medical transport. For years, he collected Hollow Crown evidence under another identity.
He learned that his genetic sample remained stored.
He demanded destruction.
Alan Cole falsified the disposal certificate.
Laura later discovered the embryo transfer after Emily was already pregnant.
She wanted to tell her.
Eleanor argued the shock might cause miscarriage and expose the survivor network.
Laura chose delay.
Protection through secrecy again.
Adrian looked toward Emily through the glass.
“I am sorry.”
“You didn’t choose the transfer.”
“No.”
“You still knew for months.”
“Yes.”
“You chose when I could learn.”
“Yes.”
Emily appreciated the lack of excuse.
She did not know what relationship, if any, Adrian should have with the child.
Biology created responsibility for truth.
It did not automatically create fatherhood.
Marcus submitted a new statement admitting he signed the embryo documents without identifying the donor. He believed the sample was his or an approved Vale backup.
“Approved by whom?” Claire asked.
“My mother.”
“You gave her authority over Emily’s body.”
“Yes.”
He also admitted knowing Bennett planned to create a courtroom incident.
He claimed the physical kick was never part of the plan.
The microphone recording showed he expected an interrupted assault.
Prosecutors would decide the legal significance.
Emily focused on surviving the pregnancy.
A new medical team unaffiliated with St. Catherine’s took over. Every medication was verified by two nurses. Thomas remained outside unless invited.
He had learned not to confuse presence with entitlement.
Savannah requested permission to write Emily a statement.
Emily accepted the letter but did not promise to read it.
Miriam entered protective care and began challenging Bennett’s guardianship.
Bennett’s authority started collapsing as former clients came forward.
The Hollow Crown archive revealed a family-court clerk had scheduled Judge Whitmore’s courtroom deliberately. The original assigned judge was given a false illness report.
Bennett wanted Thomas on the bench because the paternal revelation would create conflict and media chaos.
The clerk identified the person who issued the order.
Laura Whitmore.
Thomas stared at the authorization.
“She chose my courtroom?”
Claire checked the signature.
It appeared genuine.
Laura may have believed Thomas would protect Emily physically and recuse legally, preserving the evidence. She may have designed the only room where Savannah’s attack could not be buried.
If so, she had placed her pregnant daughter in danger to expose the network.
The intention might have been intervention before contact.
The result remained assault.
Adrian confirmed Laura spoke about “the courtroom convergence.”
She believed Emily, Marcus, Savannah, Bennett, Thomas, and the archive all needed to enter one recorded space.
“That was her plan,” Adrian said. “I tried to stop it.”
“Why didn’t you warn me?” Emily asked.
“Eleanor said the plan had been canceled.”
Another person trusted the wrong assurance.
Emily’s phone rang.
Laura appeared on a live video.
Her hair was gray, her face thinner, but her eyes remained the same.
“Emily.”
Emily stared at the mother she had buried.
“You scheduled the courtroom.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Savannah would move toward me.”
“I believed the deputy would stop her.”
“You risked my baby.”
Laura began crying.
“I risked one moment to expose twenty-eight years.”
“No. You risked my body.”
Laura closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
The direct admission prevented argument.
Emily asked where she was.
Laura turned the camera.
Eleanor sat restrained behind her.
“I finally have the woman who ordered the embryo transfer.”
Emily’s anger sharpened.
“Release her to authorities.”
“She still controls Hollow Crown’s medical keys.”
“Then surrender both of you.”
Laura looked toward someone outside the frame.
“I cannot. Bennett has the infant custody order ready.”
The screen changed.
A court document authorized removal of Emily’s child immediately after delivery.
The issuing judge was not Thomas.
It was Judge Eleanor Hart—the supposedly independent judge now handling the divorce.
