She did not hide the embarrassment.
Transparency denied Bennett another secret.
Laura released Eleanor Vale after federal agents surrounded the location.
Both women surrendered.
They entered separate custody.
Emily watched their first joint interview.
Laura admitted designing the courtroom convergence.
Eleanor admitted financing the embryo transfer.
Each claimed the other crossed the final line.
“You put my daughter beneath Marcus’s control,” Laura said.
“You placed her in a courtroom with a trained aggressor,” Eleanor answered.
“You stole Adrian’s sample.”
“You abandoned Emily for twenty-eight years.”
Both women carried truths.
Neither truth erased her own choices.
Thomas entered the interview only as a witness.
Laura saw him through the glass.
For a moment, the years between them disappeared.
Then he asked the question Emily needed answered.
“Why didn’t you come home?”
Laura looked toward the table.
“Because the first time I tried, Emily did not recognize me.”
The missing year returned.
Laura visited the rehabilitation center after escaping the car fire. Emily screamed, called her a stranger, and begged for Claire’s mother.
Alan Cole’s treatment had damaged her memory.
Laura believed appearing again would endanger and destabilize her.
Thomas stared.
“You could have told me.”
“Richard monitored you.”
“Later?”
“I became useful inside the network.”
“You chose the investigation over our daughter.”
Laura’s eyes filled.
“Yes.”
No one softened the statement.
Savannah entered the witness program after providing Bennett’s financial keys. She accepted responsibility for the assault and agreed to testify.
Her cooperation did not determine sentencing.
It did not restore Emily’s trust.
It changed only what she chose next.
Miriam identified forty-two guardianship victims hidden behind Bennett’s legal practice.
The survivor board selected four Covenant custodians:
Claire.
Miriam.
A former Hollow Crown victim named Teresa Brooks.
An independent forensic accountant.
The fifth seat remained unresolved.
Laura’s secret appointment of Savannah was invalidated because Emily had not consented.
Emily offered Savannah a nonvoting advisory role after the criminal case—not as forgiveness, but because perpetrators who became witnesses still possessed relevant knowledge.
Savannah accepted without demanding more.

His lawyers advised against it.
He signed anyway.
“Why?” Emily asked during a recorded call.
“Because I should never have had it.”

It did not erase the marriage.
Emily filed for immediate dissolution based on fraud and endangerment.
Marcus did not oppose.
Then Claire found a medical clause hidden inside the embryo agreement.
Upon birth, the child’s legal parents would be registered as Emily and Marcus unless an alternate declaration had been executed.
Eleanor had executed one.

Legal father: Adrian Vale.
The document attempted to convert the biological parents—or presumed biological parents—into legal guardians immediately.
Emily’s name disappeared.
Eleanor claimed she intended to protect the baby if Emily became incapacitated.
Instead, she erased the woman carrying the child.
Judge Hart voided the declaration provisionally.
Final parentage remained unresolved.
Emily began active labor that evening.
Doctors moved her into a secured delivery suite.
The story would not show the medical outcome yet.
Outside the room, Thomas, Laura, Adrian, Marcus, Claire, and federal officers waited in separate areas.
No one possessed the right to enter without Emily’s invitation.
She chose Claire.
The doors closed.
Then the hospital system displayed an emergency newborn-transfer alert.
Someone had activated Eleanor’s voided custody order from inside the delivery wing.

Laura was sitting under guard fifty feet away.
