Evelyn finally learned where her allowance had come from during discovery.
Not from me personally.
From bank records produced under confidentiality.
Four years.
Monthly ACH.
Sender:
Mercer Family Office FBO Emily Mercer Langford.
Not Daniel.
Her lawyer showed her.
She called Daniel.
We know because Daniel later produced messages.
Evelyn:
You told me this was from you.
Daniel:
I arranged it.
Evelyn:
That’s not what I asked.
Daniel:
We were married. It was our money.
Not legally.
Evelyn:
Did Emily pay the club too?
Daniel:
Why does this matter now?
Evelyn:
Because I called her a freeloader.

For the first time, I felt something toward Evelyn other than anger.
Embarrassment can be useful when it points toward truth.
She did not apologize immediately.
Instead she disappeared.
No calls.
No public comments.
Three weeks.
Then a letter through Rebecca.
One paragraph:
