Chapter 9 - The police report

Daniel did not deny slapping me.
Not once he learned the foyer camera existed.
His first lawyer gave a statement:
“Mr. Langford acknowledges inappropriate physical contact occurred during an emotionally charged marital confrontation.”
Inappropriate physical contact.
A sentence polished until the verb disappeared.
The video showed:
Daniel stepping in front of me.
Argument.
One slap.
No strike from me.
No physical aggression from me beforehand.
Then later, at the door, his hand on my wrist.
No audio from the main foyer camera.
Witnesses supplied dialogue.
Some remembered accurately.
Some did not.
Evelyn claimed I had said:
“You’ll all be homeless by morning.”
I had not.
A cousin said Daniel slapped me after I called him:
“A financial parasite.”
I had not said that either.
Luis’s statement mattered.
He had been close.
He heard:
Daniel: “GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!”
Evelyn: “Leave the jewelry. Leave the car. Everything here belongs to my son.”
Me: “Because none of this belongs to you.”
Then the allowance line.
Luis also said Daniel grabbed my wrist before releasing it when told.
The prosecutor treated the slap as a domestic assault.
No attempted murder.
No felony fantasy.
One strike.
Documented injury.
Marriage.
Witnesses.
Daniel had no criminal record.
He eventually received a summons rather than being dragged out of an office in handcuffs.
That disappointed people online later.

I did not care about spectacle.
I cared about a record.
