Part 1

PART 1

“The new bride slapped his ex-wife before boarding… then learned the whole Europe trip was paid by her.”

The slap cracked across Gate B17 just as the first-class boarding announcement echoed through the airport.

Claire Monroe did not fall.

She only turned her face with the impact, one hand still resting calmly on the handle of her silver carry-on.

Around her, passengers froze.

A family in matching vacation outfits stopped laughing.

A businessman lowered his phone.

Two airline employees looked up from the boarding scanner.

And in front of everyone, Sienna Monroe stood in a white designer travel suit, her diamond ring flashing under the airport lights like a weapon.

She had been married to Claire’s ex-husband for less than twenty-four hours.

But she already wore his last name like she had conquered a country.

Logan stood behind her with his parents, his sister, his cousins, and two teenage children who should have known better than to stare at their mother like strangers.

Claire’s daughter, Ava, looked horrified.

Her son, Mason, looked at the floor.

Logan looked everywhere except at Claire.

Sienna lifted her chin.

“He upgraded his life.”

Her voice was loud enough for half the gate to hear.

“You’re just the past.”

Claire slowly touched the red mark blooming on her cheek.

She looked at Sienna.

Then at Logan.

Then at the boarding sign for Zurich.

From Zurich, the family would connect to Lake Como.

After that, Paris.

Then Monaco.

A two-week honeymoon disguised as a family celebration.

First-class tickets.

Five-star hotels.

Private transfers.

Villas with lake views.

Champagne welcome baskets.

And every single dollar had been charged through the Monroe Design corporate travel account Logan had promised, under oath, he stopped using six months ago.

Claire had not come to the airport to make a scene.

She had come because the fraud alert arrived at 5:42 that morning.

She had come because the card ending in 9904 still had her name on it.

She had come because the travel agent called her “Mrs. Monroe” and asked if she wanted the honeymoon amenities changed from “Claire and Logan” to “Logan and Sienna.”

That was when the last polite part of Claire died.

Sienna crossed her arms.

“Well?”

Claire’s voice stayed soft.

“Then why is my card paying for your honeymoon?”

The gate went silent.

Logan’s face changed instantly.

Not surprise.

Fear.

Sienna blinked.

“What?”

Claire unlocked her phone.

Logan stepped forward.

“Claire.”

His voice dropped into the old tone.

The one he used when he wanted her to fix something quietly and then thank him for not making it worse.

“Please don’t cancel it here.”

That sentence told the entire gate everything.

Sienna turned slowly toward him.

“Cancel what?”

Claire tapped the banking app.

The screen showed pending travel charges totaling one hundred eighty-six thousand dollars.

Sienna stared.

Logan whispered, “Claire, don’t.”

Claire looked at him.

“You brought your new wife, your parents, your cousins, and our children to Europe on a card you stole from the woman you publicly humiliated.”

Her thumb hovered over the button.

“You should have booked a cheaper lie.”

Then she pressed revoke authorization.

At the gate counter, the airline agent’s phone rang.

She answered.

Listened.

Typed.

Then looked up at the entire Monroe wedding party.

Her voice was professional, but her eyes were wide.

“The payment has been revoked.”

Sienna’s mouth opened.

No sound came out.

Claire slid her phone into her coat pocket.

The red mark on her cheek still burned.

But for the first time in years, she felt no need to hide the pain Logan caused.

She lifted her suitcase handle.

Then she looked at Sienna.

“Enjoy the upgrade.”

Continue to PART 2 to discover how Logan secretly kept Claire’s corporate travel card active, why the honeymoon was never just a honeymoon, and what Claire’s children finally realize at the gate.
