part 7

PART 7
The walk from Gate B17 to baggage claim felt longer than the divorce itself.
Claire moved slowly because Ava and Mason stayed close, one on each side.
For months, maybe years, there had been invisible distance between them.
Logan had built it with small comments, missed calls, carefully timed disappointments, and the constant suggestion that Claire chose work over motherhood.
Now that distance did not vanish.
But it cracked.
That was enough for one airport.
Behind them, Logan’s family argued in low, vicious bursts.
Vivian wanted to know how much he owed.
Marcy wanted her husband to delete the villa posts.
Logan’s father wanted no police report.
Sienna wanted the truth.
Logan wanted everyone to lower their voices.
No one obeyed.
At baggage claim, Sienna caught up to Claire.
Ava stiffened again.
Sienna stopped several feet away.
This time she did not invade space.
Good.
She was learning quickly under pressure.
“I owe you an apology.”
Claire turned.
“Yes.”
Sienna swallowed.
“I’m sorry I slapped you.”
Claire waited.
Sienna looked down.
“I’m sorry I called you the past.”
Claire’s expression did not soften.
“That was the part you said because you believed it.”
Sienna nodded.
“Yes.”
“I wanted to believe it.”
“Why?”
Sienna looked toward Logan in the distance.
“Because if you were the past, then I didn’t have to feel like the replacement.”
Claire studied her.
That was honest.
Not enough.
But honest.
Ava held Claire’s hand.
Sienna noticed.
Her eyes filled again.
“He told me you abandoned them.”
Claire’s voice went cold.
“He told many stories.”
Sienna looked at Mason.
“I’m sorry.”
Mason did not answer.
He did not have to.
Sienna accepted that too.
Then she said the thing that made Claire pay attention.
“He rushed the courthouse wedding.”
Claire looked at her.
“When?”
“Yesterday morning.”
“I thought the wedding was next month.”
Sienna nodded.
“That’s what we told people.”
“Then why yesterday?”
Sienna’s lips trembled.
“He said there were legal advantages before the trip.”
Naomi, standing nearby, looked up instantly.
“What legal advantages?”
Sienna rubbed her forehead.
“I don’t know.”
“He said if we married before Europe, some documents would be easier to file.”
Claire and Naomi exchanged a look.
Logan had not been planning only a honeymoon fraud.
He had been planning paperwork.
Naomi asked, “Did you sign anything besides the marriage certificate?”
Sienna hesitated.
“I signed a spousal acknowledgment.”
Claire’s stomach tightened.
“For what?”
“I thought it was travel insurance.”
Naomi’s face turned hard.
“Do you have a copy?”
Sienna pulled out her phone.
Her hands shook as she searched her email.
Then she handed it to Naomi.
Naomi read for ten seconds.
Her expression changed.
Claire knew that look.
It meant the day was about to get worse before it got better.
“This is not travel insurance.”
Sienna whispered, “What is it?”
Naomi looked at Claire.
“It is an acknowledgment of household debt and asset-sharing intent.”
Claire frowned.
“Can it affect me?”
“Not directly.”
Naomi looked toward Logan.
“But it suggests he was trying to create the appearance of a new marital estate while hiding existing liabilities.”
Sienna’s face went white.
“He married me for debt?”
Naomi answered carefully.
“He may have married you fast to move money, assign liability, or support a loan application.”
Sienna turned toward Logan.
For the first time, her anger was not embarrassment.
It was survival.
She walked back to him fast.
Claire did not follow.
This was Sienna’s lesson now.
Ava leaned into Claire.
“Can we please go home?”
“Yes.”
Mason looked at the departure screens.
“Will Dad get arrested?”
Claire took a breath.
“I don’t know.”
“Do you want him to?”
She looked at her son.
“I want him to stop hurting people and calling it love.”
Mason nodded slowly.
At baggage claim, Claire’s driver arrived with a large black SUV.
Ava and Mason climbed in first.
Before Claire got in, she looked back through the glass doors toward the airport.
Logan stood surrounded by the family he had tried to impress.
Sienna was holding her phone in his face.
Vivian was crying.
Security was waiting.
The honeymoon was gone.
The performance was gone.
And for once, Claire was not staying behind to clean up after him.
She got into the car.
Mason leaned against the window.
Ava rested her head on Claire’s shoulder.
The driver pulled away.
No one spoke for several minutes.
Then Ava whispered, “Mom?”
“Yes?”
“I’m sorry I believed him.”
Claire closed her eyes.
She kissed the top of her daughter’s head.
May you like
“Then we start there.”
Continue to PART 8 to see Sienna expose Logan’s rushed marriage paperwork, Claire’s company recover the stolen charges, and the children learn the deeper reason their mother stayed quiet for so long.
