Chapter 15 - DANIEL ADMITS WHAT HE KNEWI met Daniel in my attorney’s office.

No hospital.

No bedroom.

Neutral table.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

He stared at his hands.

“I thought Mom was using herbal stuff.”

“Secretly.”

“I didn’t realize you didn’t know.”

“Why would she need to hide it?”

He started:

“I—”

Stopped.

Good.

“Because you knew.”

“I knew you’d be angry.”

“That means you knew I hadn’t consented.”

His face collapsed.

“Yes.”

There.

“Did you ever see the bottle?”

“Once.”

“What did it look like?”

“Small. Amber.”

Prescription bottle?

“Label?”

“I didn’t read it.”

“Why?”

“I didn’t think she would hurt you.”

That sentence had replaced:

That’s just Mom.

Same structure.
