Chapter 19 - THE CENTRAL TRUTHEvelyn did not push me down the stairs.

At least investigators could not prove she did.

No handprint.

No camera.

No witness.

I never remembered physical contact.

What evidence supported was this:

She covertly gave me a prescription sedative while I was pregnant.

She knew it made me heavily drowsy on prior occasions.

She did it again the morning I fell.

She polished the staircase railing that morning as part of ordinary cleaning.

The runner was already slightly loose.

I climbed the stairs while impaired.

On the way back down, my foot slipped.

I grabbed a slick rail.

I fell.

Evelyn stood above me.

Why did she smile?

She denied smiling.

Maybe concussion distorted it.

Maybe it was shock.

Maybe she was pleased.

That part remained mine alone.

The poisoning was provable.

The push was not.

The fall did not need an intentional shove to be her responsibility in part.

She had altered my body without permission and then watched the consequences arrive.
