Mia’s coat lay in the back seat.

A second car had collected them.
The Continuity client list showed a property outside Washington owned through a judicial education trust. Detectives suspected Kessler intended to move Mia beyond local jurisdiction.
A multi-state alert was issued.
No rescue occurred before the court hearing scheduled that afternoon.
Thomas, Helen, and Voss each challenged detention. Their attorneys attacked the notebooks, the hidden-room footage, and the Meridian records as unlawfully obtained or medically confidential.
No final legal outcome was shown.
Judge Alicia Moore, brought in after Crane fled, refused to dismiss the evidence but warned that every document required authentication.
Thomas appeared by video from a secured interview room.
He looked toward Chloe rather than the judge.
“You have destroyed your family.”
Chloe sat between Lauren and Rachel.
“No. I described it.”
His face reddened.
“You think Rachel wants you? She wants a lawsuit.”
Rachel did not respond.
Chloe did.
“She let me choose whether to meet her.”
Thomas had no answer to that.
Helen’s lawyer argued that Continuity began as a child-protection research project and that later abuses could not be attributed to its founder.
Dr. Reyes testified about the repeated fractures, the hidden medical records, the attempted IV tampering, and the sedative found in Chloe’s blood.
“Whatever theory existed on paper,” she said, “this patient’s body records years of deliberate harm.”
The X-rays became the clearest witness.
They did not depend on memory.
They did not care which adult controlled the story.
The bones showed different injuries across different years.
Savannah testified next.
She admitted writing the notebooks.
She admitted altering one entry after causing Chloe’s shoulder injury.
The defense seized on it.
“If one entry is false, why should any be trusted?”
“Because the X-rays match the others,” Savannah answered. “And because I’m telling you which one I changed.”
Her honesty weakened the attack.
Lila testified about Crane’s control and Nora’s removal.
Nora described Cedar House.
Ivy remained protected and did not appear.
The judge ordered temporary separation of the girls from all Continuity-connected guardians while evidence was reviewed.
Thomas would not return home with Chloe.
Helen would not receive access.
No custody determination between Rachel and the state was made.
Chloe asked to remain in medical foster care near Savannah.
The court agreed temporarily.
It was not an ending.
It was breathing room.
After the hearing, independent DNA specialists delivered one additional result.
Chloe and Wren were confirmed identical twins using a blood sample preserved in the Meridian archive.
Wren’s legal identity had changed five times.
Her current name was Samantha Kessler.
Martin Kessler had raised Chloe’s twin as his daughter.
That explained why he always knew the family’s private evidence. He was not merely Thomas’s attorney.
He controlled Wren.
Public records showed Samantha Kessler attending a private college in Maryland. Her photographs matched the older girl from Continuity files.
But the student had not attended class in six months.
Kessler continued using her identity to sign travel and property forms.
Wren was hidden somewhere else.
A secure email reached Detective Morgan.
The sender identified herself as Samantha.
Kessler did not take Mia from the hospital. Mia took him. She knows where Helen kept the original tapes. Do not follow the interstate car.
Attached was a photograph from inside an underground room.
Kessler sat tied to a chair.
Mia stood beside a server cabinet holding his phone.
Wren’s face appeared in a mirror behind them.
Claire studied the image.
Wren was alive.
But she was not free.
A figure stood outside the reflected doorway.
Only one arm was visible.
The sleeve carried a hospital board pin belonging to Dr. Voss.
Voss remained under guard at the courthouse.
