Chapter 7 - THE RECORDING THOMAS COULD NOT ERASEDr. Voss was found inside the hospital’s records department.
He had locked himself in a server room and attempted to delete the Continuity files. Security officers removed him after he refused to open the door.
His attorney claimed he had entered the room to protect confidential patient information.
Detective Morgan found a flash drive in his pocket.
It held recordings from the Hale house.
Thousands of hours.
Thomas had documented the sisters from childhood, partly for blackmail and partly for the Continuity study.
Dr. Reyes viewed only footage relevant to immediate safety.
One video showed six-year-old Chloe sitting at the kitchen table with a badly swollen wrist.
Thomas asked:
“How did you hurt yourself?”
Chloe answered, “You pushed me.”
The recording stopped.
It resumed minutes later.
Thomas asked the question again.
This time Chloe said, “I fell from the swing.”
He praised her.
Diane placed ice on the wrist.
Savannah stood in the doorway, crying silently.
Another video showed Savannah at twelve attempting to call police. Thomas took the phone and forced her to watch footage of Chloe breaking a lamp.
He told Savannah that Chloe would be sent to juvenile detention if outsiders became involved.
The girls were conditioned with opposite threats.
Chloe was told Savannah would be blamed.
Savannah was told Chloe would be removed.
A newer recording revealed Nora’s arrival.
She entered the Hale basement wearing a school uniform and handcuffs connected by a nylon restraint.
Thomas told the camera:
“Patient N-14 resists guardian reunification and demonstrates contamination from maternal narrative.”
Nora looked directly at him.
“My mother is not a narrative.”
Thomas’s face hardened.
The footage showed Diane bringing meals and Chloe listening near the hidden wall.
Savannah was away at college.
Three weeks later, Savannah returned unexpectedly.
She opened the basement door.
Nora was inside.
Savannah stepped toward her.
The video lost audio for several minutes, but their movements were clear. Nora showed Savannah papers hidden beneath the mattress. Savannah photographed them with her phone.
Thomas entered.
Diane followed carrying water and tablets.
Savannah tried to protect Nora.
Voss arrived through the garage.
He injected Savannah with a sedative.
The recording continued after she collapsed.
Thomas ordered the digital footage altered and told Voss:
“When she wakes, she remembers an empty room.”
Savannah watched the recovered video from the hospital consultation room.
She sobbed without sound.
“I did know her.”
“You were drugged,” Claire said.
“I promised I would return.”
Nora had given Savannah a copy of the Continuity client list. It named judges, school administrators, wealthy guardians, and private physicians who had used the program.
Savannah hid the list before losing consciousness.
“Where?”
She struggled to remember.
In the video, Savannah moved toward the basement laundry area before Thomas entered. Her hand disappeared behind the dryer.
Officers returned to the house.
Behind an electrical panel, they found a memory card wrapped in plastic.
The card held the client list and Nora’s recorded testimony.
“My name is Nora Ellis. My stepfather paid Meridian to make me withdraw my abuse report. Thomas Hale says if I repeat his version enough times, the court will believe it. Dr. Voss gives me medication when I refuse.”
She named another location.
A rural residential property called Cedar House.
Children who could not be made “family compliant” were transferred there.
The final recording had been made three years earlier, the night Savannah first entered the room.
But Nora had returned to the Hale house only four months ago.
She must have escaped Cedar House or been sent back for another reason.
The client list contained a current transfer order.
N-14 and secondary witness to be moved after C-16 hospital event.
Detective Morgan studied the wording.
“What secondary witness?”
The answer appeared in a note attached to Chloe’s file.
If C-16 speaks, activate S-19 responsibility narrative.
Thomas planned to blame Savannah for Chloe’s injuries.
The hospital camera above Chloe’s door had recorded his attempt to seize the chart, his threats, and Savannah’s panic.
But another camera existed inside the trauma room.
Dr. Reyes’s phone had been recording from the moment Thomas grabbed Chloe’s wrist.
The footage preserved Chloe’s statement about the list and Thomas’s reaction.
It also captured Diane whispering something behind Savannah before the curtain closed.
Audio technicians enhanced it.
Diane’s words became clear:
“Don’t let them find the other daughter.”
Savannah turned toward her mother.
“What other daughter?”
Diane closed her eyes.
