Chapter 13 - Thomas Holloway’s ReturnRose did not move toward Thomas.

She moved in front of Dustin.

“You stay away from him.”

Thomas smiled sadly.

“You have spent forty years running from the wrong man.”

“You helped Howard.”

“I infiltrated Howard.”

“You let Alana believe you were dead.”

“To protect her.”

Alana laughed through tears.

“Everyone protected me by disappearing.”

Thomas had worked as an accountant for Gray Heritage before Rose owned the country house. He discovered Howard Sr. using false guardianships to seize property.

He helped Rose collect evidence.

Then someone exposed him.

Thomas staged his death and entered federal witness protection.

He claimed he could not contact Rose or Alana without endangering them.

Yet the registry showed he continued monitoring their lives.

He knew Alana married.

He knew Caleb and Ellie were born.

He knew Rose hid inside the house.

He knew about Dustin before Clarissa did.

“You watched Alana become part of the same system,” Clarissa said.

“I tried to intervene through letters.”

“Did you speak to her?”

“No.”

“Then you sent instructions, not love.”

Thomas accepted the criticism.

He revealed Anna Wells worked with him.

She volunteered to carry the Gray Heritage beneficiary line because the trust required a direct descendant connected to Thomas.

Clarissa stared.

“You arranged her pregnancy?”

“No. She chose the father.”

“Who?”

Thomas looked toward Parker.

Parker shook his head.

“Not me.”

Then toward Caleb.

Caleb’s voice came through the phone.

“I never knew.”

Thomas said Anna used an anonymous donor through a fertility clinic. The sample came from Thomas’s biological son.

Not Caleb.

A second son Rose never knew existed.

Thomas had fathered a child before meeting Rose.

That son was Howard Gray Jr.

Rose stepped backward.

“No.”

Thomas claimed Howard Jr.’s mother married Howard Sr., who raised the boy and gave him the Gray name. Howard Jr. believed Howard Sr. was his biological father.

If true, Howard was Alana’s half-brother through Thomas—not through Rose.

Dustin’s anonymous donor was Howard Jr.

Anna chose the man whose inheritance the child would later control.

“She used Howard’s sample without his consent?” Clarissa asked.

Thomas looked away.

“The clinic retained it from a medical procedure.”

The story became darker.

Anna and Thomas had fought a coercive system by using another person’s genetic material without consent.

They created a child as a legal key.

Dustin had been loved by Anna.

He had been loved by Clarissa.

But adults had also designed his birth around property control.

Clarissa’s voice hardened.

“No one tells him this until an independent child specialist decides what he can safely understand.”

Thomas nodded.

“I agree.”

“You do not get a vote.”

He lowered his eyes.

Outside, Howard heard enough through the breached intercom to understand.

He was Dustin’s biological father.

His confidence vanished.

“Anna used me?”

Thomas answered through the speaker.

“She used the inheritance structure you defended.”

Howard raised his gun toward the house.

State police ordered him to drop it.

He backed toward the SUV instead.

Before anyone fired, Judge Cole drove a patrol vehicle through the side gate, creating another escape route.

Howard climbed inside.

Cole drove toward the wooded service road.

No final arrests occurred; police vehicles pursued them into the darkness.

Inside, Thomas placed an encrypted key beside the black registry.

It could transfer Gray Heritage’s voting shares into independent court control until Dustin became an adult.

Clarissa refused to use it immediately.

“Every document tonight has contained another trap.”

Thomas agreed to independent review.

Parker watched her.

“You trust no one now.”

“I trust actions that can be verified.”

“What about us?”

“There is no us to discuss tonight.”

He accepted the boundary.

Rose confronted Thomas.

“Did you ever plan to come home?”

“After Howard was exposed.”

“He is still not exposed.”

“No.”

“Then you would have waited forever.”

Thomas had no answer.

The house assistant restored one final audio file.

Anna’s voice.

She spoke shortly before her death.

“If Dustin reaches Clarissa, do not tell her the inheritance until she has chosen him without knowing his value.”

Clarissa began crying.

Anna had wanted Dustin loved as a child before anyone saw him as an heir.

That part, at least, had happened.

Then Anna continued:

“Parker knows the plan. If he approaches Clarissa before the adoption is final, he is not protecting Dustin. He is protecting himself.”

Parker’s face went white.

The adoption became final six years ago.

Parker met Clarissa six months earlier.

He had approached her before she legally became Dustin’s mother.

👉 Anna’s last recording proved Parker entered Clarissa’s life before the adoption—knowing exactly what Dustin would someday inherit.
