She called it her blessing book.
Margaret told me.
Police? No need. Through financial discovery maybe Robert shared.
Eventually Helen gave me a photocopy during mediation to “prove everything was accounted for.”
It did.
Just not the way she intended.
Pages:
DAVID — surgery deductible — Robert helped.
NICOLE — tuition — Helen arranged.
MARGARET — assisted living — family support.
ERIN — roof — Robert paid.
No mention Thomas.
Then my own payments to parents:
THOMAS — monthly contribution.
Contribution.
Not support.
Not money from Thomas.
He became one donor among many in the language.
Then party:
HELEN 70TH — family-funded celebration.
I had paid 93 percent.
Margaret bought flowers.
One cousin paid the DJ.
Family-funded.
Technically.
I realized my parents had not necessarily sat down and invented a grand deception.
They had changed nouns until reality felt comfortable.
My money became contribution.
Their spending became help.
My parents became providers.
Relatives became grateful.
