Chapter 6 - The First NurseNathan reviewed six months of penthouse staffing records.

Before Elise, Diane employed another private nurse named Hannah Cole. She worked only night shifts and resigned suddenly after three weeks.

Diane claimed Hannah stole medication.

No police report existed.

The staffing agency had no record of placing her.

Her address belonged to a vacant office.

Hannah Cole was not her real name.

The photograph of sleeping Cassidy came from the period Hannah worked inside the penthouse.

Arthur traced payments to a woman named Serena Blake, a former maternity nurse whose license had been suspended after a patient’s medical consent forms were altered.

Serena disappeared from public records after the suspension.

A facial comparison linked her to Hannah.

Cassidy had met her only twice.

Hannah claimed Diane suffered nighttime dizziness and needed assistance.

Cassidy remembered waking once to find the woman standing near the bedroom doorway.

Brendan said she was checking the thermostat.

Security footage from that month had been deleted.

Protocol Seven recovered fragments from an off-site backup.

Serena entered Cassidy’s room on seven separate nights.

She photographed Cassidy’s face, fingerprints on a water glass, and the signature inside her passport.

On the final night, she used a portable scanner over Cassidy’s hand.

They had been building a biometric profile.

Arthur looked grim.

“Your signature, fingerprint rhythm, and facial scan could authorize documents without you present.”

Cassidy remembered the declarations bearing her supposed medical consent.

“They didn’t only want me unconscious. They wanted to become me.”

Arthur nodded.

The continuity trust contained several approvals that appeared to come from Cassidy’s secure account.

Her lawyers assumed the signatures were forged digitally.

Now they knew how.

Serena had captured the data in the bedroom.

Brendan had allowed her access.

Nathan traced Serena to a private recovery facility in Connecticut owned through a Morrison-affiliated charity.

She had checked in under another name after leaving the penthouse.

A medical transport company moved her again two weeks later.

Destination unknown.

Then a secure call reached Cassidy’s hospital room.

A woman whispered.

“My name is Serena Blake. Diane told everyone I left the country.”

Arthur activated recording.

“Where are you?” Cassidy asked.

“I can’t say. They monitor the lines.”

“What did you do in my bedroom?”

Serena began crying.

“I copied your biometric data. I thought it was for estate planning.”

“You entered while I was asleep.”

“Brendan gave me the code.”

Cassidy closed her eyes.

“What else?”

Serena had been instructed to collect hair from Cassidy’s brush, used tissues, and medication samples. Dr. Reeves wanted biological material to create consistent test results if Cassidy refused examination.

They could contaminate records, claim drug misuse, or create false genetic reports.

“Why are you calling now?”

“Because Elise contacted me.”

“Elise drugged me.”

“She said Diane changed the plan.”

“What was the original plan?”

Serena’s breathing became uneven.

“Make you appear unstable after delivery. Keep you sedated for three days. Transfer the shares. No permanent harm.”

“And the new plan?”

Silence.

“Serena?”

“Elise said the baby had to be born before you could change the trust.”

Cassidy looked toward Arthur.

Her daughter’s birth itself could alter the estate.

Under Vale family law, Cassidy’s child would become a direct beneficiary at the moment of live birth. Any preexisting temporary authority over Cassidy’s shares would become subject to independent guardian review.

The Morrisons needed control before that occurred.

Serena continued.

“Diane found a document your father signed. It says if a Vale heir is born under medical emergency, the spouse can claim temporary protective authority.”

Arthur stood.

“That clause was repealed.”

“Diane has the original.”

An old version of the family charter could create enough confusion for a court fight.

They did not need permanent victory.

Only hours of control to move money and destroy evidence.

Serena gave one final warning.

“Brendan is not the only person who opened your bedroom door.”

“Who else?”

“Arthur.”

Cassidy turned toward her uncle.

His face became still.

Serena disconnected.

👉 Serena confessed to stealing Cassidy’s biometrics—but her final accusation placed Arthur inside the bedroom operation too.
