Chapter 8 - The Labor They Tried to ScheduleNaomi moved Cassidy into a high-risk observation suite.

The baby’s heartbeat remained stable, but mild contractions had begun.
Cassidy could not tell whether they came from the medication, stress, or both.
Every tightening of her abdomen filled the room with fear.
Brendan called repeatedly.
Arthur blocked the number until Cassidy stopped him.
“I want one recorded conversation.”
She answered with Arthur and Nathan listening.
Brendan spoke immediately.
“I heard about the medication. I swear I didn’t know.”
“You knew Reeves planned an early delivery.”
“I knew she wanted to monitor you.”
“You discussed the delivery window with Jessica.”
“That was about the board meeting.”
“You wrote that you needed me unable to interfere for forty-eight hours.”
“I meant resting.”
“You approved a life-insurance policy.”
“My mother said it was standard.”
“You opened the door for Elise.”
“I thought she was checking your blood pressure.”
“You knew Serena copied my biometrics?”
Silence.
“Brendan?”
“I knew she was collecting signatures for estate documents.”
“While I slept?”
“Mom said you kept delaying.”
Cassidy felt something inside her settle.
He had not known every detail.
He had known enough at every stage to stop.
He chose not to because each violation benefited him.
“Did you know about the contraction medication?”
“No.”
“Did you know the maternity suite restricted my access to my own daughter?”
Another silence.
“I thought it was temporary.”
Cassidy closed her eyes.
There it was.
Not ignorance.
Permission.
He believed temporary harm became acceptable if it delivered permanent power.
The baby shifted beneath the monitor.
Cassidy said quietly, “You are no longer authorized to make any decision for me or our child.”
“You can’t erase me as her father.”
“I can protect her from a man who watched this happen.”
He began shouting.
Nathan ended the call.
Arthur preserved the recording.
The hospital legal team filed an emergency medical autonomy order. No final custody ruling was shown, but Brendan’s automatic spousal authority was suspended pending review.
At the penthouse, Diane learned of the suspension.
She smashed a champagne bottle against the wall and demanded access to the family attorney.
Jessica attempted to transfer money from the continuity fund.
The bank rejected the transaction.
Malcolm called investors, claiming Cassidy suffered a pregnancy-related breakdown and had seized the company irrationally.
Protocol Seven released the authenticated medical evidence to the independent board.
The sedative.
The contraction drug.
The hidden maternity suite.
The forged competency declarations.
Morrison directors began resigning from Diane’s faction within the hour.
Then Nathan found something inside the legal folder carried by the security team.
A page had been inserted after Protocol Seven activated.
It authorized Arthur to assume temporary control of Cassidy’s personal trust if she entered premature labor.
The signature looked authentic.
Arthur denied creating it.
The document used Cassidy’s stolen biometric profile.
Someone had prepared a second takeover plan.
Not for Brendan.
For Arthur.
Cassidy stared at her uncle.
“Did you know this existed?”
“No.”
“Would you benefit?”
“Yes.”
That answer mattered.
Arthur would gain temporary control if Cassidy became medically incapacitated. The clause was rational on paper because he had protected the Vale estate for years.
But Diane could use it to argue Protocol Seven itself was Arthur’s attempt to seize power through Cassidy’s pregnancy.
The Morrisons’ attorneys would claim the entire operation was a family coup.
Nathan traced the document’s creation.
The file originated from Arthur’s office computer.
Access time: 1:43 a.m., five weeks earlier.
Security footage showed Arthur leaving the office at midnight.
Someone remained inside.
A woman wearing a hood entered through the executive elevator using Serena Blake’s badge.
The hood slipped for one frame.
May you like
The woman was Jessica.
👉 Jessica had used stolen biometrics to create a document that could make Protocol Seven look like Arthur’s attempt to seize Cassidy’s empire.
