Chapter 19 - WHAT LEANDER SAYS UNDER OATH

The final harassment hearing concerned only:

Contact boundaries.

Property access.

Threats.

Not custody.

Leander testified.

My lawyer asked:

“Did you intend to prevent Kerensa from entering the home?”

“At that moment, yes.”

“Did you have legal authority?”

“No.”

“Did you know Hadrian owned it?”

“Yes.”

“Why toss her key?”

“To make a point.”

“What point?”

“That if Hadrian chose her over the family structure, there would be consequences.”

There.

Plain.

Then:

“Did you believe the baby should remain with you?”

“I believed the baby should remain in the household with Hadrian.”

“And Kerensa?”

“I believed she should temporarily live elsewhere.”

“Did she consent?”

“No.”

“Did you think you could force her?”

“No.”

“Yet you told her to deliver the baby and leave.”

“Yes.”

He looked ashamed.

Good.

Then:

“Were you trying to frighten her?”

Silence.

“Yes.”

That mattered.

Court extended no direct harassment order through postpartum period.

Not a full restraining order from all contact because Leander had complied for weeks and no physical assault.

He could communicate with Hadrian.

Could request visits through written channel.

No entering our property without permission.

No threats linking housing or baby access to inheritance/company.

Specific.

Good.

Then Leander’s lawyer asked:

“Has Mr. Mercer taken corrective steps?”

We acknowledged.

Withdrawn residence plan.

Stopped direct threats.

Separated company and estate communications.

Changed housing policy.

Removed Seraphine from trust advisory draft.

Yes.

The judge noted.

Consequences and progress can coexist.

Then outside, Leander approached only through lawyer.

“May I say one sentence?”

Naomi looked at me.

My choice.

“Yes.”

Leander:

“I was wrong.”

No more.

Then he left.

No hug.

Good.

Then Hadrian asked:

“Do you believe him?”

“About being wrong?”

“Yes.”

“Probably.”

“Enough?”

“For what?”

He smiled faintly.

“Exactly.”

Then Seraphine and Leander marital status.

Still separated.

Not divorced yet.

No need force ending.

Seraphine lived in an apartment.

Leander hotel then rental.

They attended counseling.

Whether marriage survived was theirs.

She remained Hadrian’s stepmother legally.

No family access to baby.

Then we approached week thirty-six.

Hospital bag.

This time I packed it.

Myself.

Hadrian watched.

“Need help?”

“Yes.”

He added charger.

Wrong one.

I corrected.

We laughed.

No one else touched suitcase.

That mattered more than it should.

Then I put the old green-tag key nowhere near it.

New keys.

New lock.

May you like

No symbolic drama.

Just practical.
