Chapter 10 - The Backup Beneath the Watchband

The recovered footage was not revealed.

The people seen in it were not named.

Who contacted the police presence remained unknown.

Whether Richard signed the disinheritance papers was not shown.

Victoria was not arrested.

No final legal consequences appeared.

The story ended inside the luxury Denver mansion foyer, with warm fireplace light behind Ethan and red-and-blue flashes sweeping violently through the glass entrance doors.

Ethan Hale stood battered but conscious on the polished marble floor.

His navy school blazer was torn.

His white shirt was stained.

His face was bruised.

His breathing was painful.

But his eyes were cold, awake, and unblinking.

Between his bruised fingers, he held the tiny black drive he had torn from beneath his damaged watchband.

Victoria Hale staggered backward in her silver satin gown, diamond necklace clutched in one shaking hand.

Her face, once twisted with sadistic delight, had collapsed into uncontrollable terror.

Richard stood near the fireplace, frozen beneath the flashing lights, guilt and cowardice fighting across his trembling face.

The family attorney stood apart from Victoria now, the unreadable disinheritance folder lowered in his hand, watching the drive as if it had changed every rule in the room.

Outside, vague silhouettes moved beyond the glass doors.

No officers entered.

No one explained why they were there.

No one played the footage.

Victoria stared at the drive.

“What exactly did you copy?”

Ethan did not answer.

He only raised it higher.

The metallic edge caught another violent flash of red and blue.

Victoria’s lips parted.

No command came out.

The folder remained unsigned.

The doors remained closed.

The secret remained unrevealed.

And in the final frozen moment, Victoria understood that the boy she sent home broken had carried back the one thing her deleted cameras could not destroy.
