She did not hate them.
She did not confuse bottles by accident.
She had been adding small amounts of her own sleep medication to their nighttime bottles because she believed it would make them sleep longer.
She had done it before.
She hid it from me because she knew I would refuse.
Trevor discovered the practice at least once before the fatal night.
He objected to the amount.
He did not stop her.
After Benjamin died, he suspected the medication immediately.
He searched overdose symptoms.
He suspected Luke had received the same thing.
And because he could not bear the idea that his mother might have caused Benjamin’s death—and because he was afraid of destroying his family—he delayed telling doctors.
That was the truth.
Not a conspiracy.
A grandmother’s arrogance.
A son’s cowardice.
