Chapter 16 - THE PHYSICAL CASE AGAINST DAMIANDamian offered a plea.
Initially, I refused to discuss it.
Then the prosecutor reminded me:
“You are the victim, not the charging authority.”
Fair.
The video was strong.
He destroyed the inhaler.
He shoved me.
He made the comment.
No serious permanent injury.
No weapon.
No prior criminal record.
He eventually pleaded to an assault-related offense and reckless-endangerment-related count as part of a negotiated resolution.
Probation.
Community service.
Mandatory behavioral intervention.
Restitution for medical costs where appropriate.
No prison sentence worthy of a streaming series.
The judge addressed him:
“You weaponized a medical vulnerability during a family conflict.”
Damian said:
“Yes.”
No excuse.
At sentencing he apologized.
I did not believe all of it.
I believed some.

That was enough for the legal proceeding.
My trust was not part of the sentence.
