Chapter 8 - THE PERSON WHO SENT ME THE DRAFTI initially believed Grandfather discovered the suspicious stock document through Rebecca.

Wrong.
Someone had anonymously sent a copy to him.
Printed.
No return address.
The estate study contained the original envelope.
Postmark:
New York City.
Grandfather had written on the back:
Ask R.S. if real.
Rebecca authenticated the document as matching material stored in the Helix transaction data room.
Who mailed it?
The answer mattered because only a limited group had access.
Damian.
His chief of staff.
Mercer Systems CFO, Jonathan Pike.
Outside transaction counsel.
Two bankers.
A family-office analyst named Natalie Cross.
I immediately suspected Natalie.
Why?
Because she avoided eye contact with me after the wake.
Excellent investigative method.
I told Rebecca:
“Natalie sent it.”
“Evidence?”
“She knows something.”
“That was not my question.”
I hated her tone.
Still correct.

The anonymous sender would remain unknown for months.
And my premature certainty would cause my first real mistake.
