Chapter 1

Bride Pours Champagne on Paralyzed Stepsister Before Yacht Sails Expose Her Hidden Accounts.

Vanessa Sterling poured champagne across my lap before walking toward the man who had once promised to marry me.

Warm liquid soaked through my silver satin gown and pooled against the shawl covering my motionless legs.

My wheelchair sat beside the white aisle runner beneath an arch of roses, with the Pacific Ocean glowing gold beyond the Malibu cliffs.

Nearly two hundred guests watched.

Some looked horrified.

Most looked away.

Vanessa leaned close enough that her veil brushed my shoulder.

“Watch me marry him and spend your mother’s fortune.”

She expected tears.

I gave her nothing.

At the altar, Adrian Vale stood in a black tuxedo, wearing the same restrained smile he had practiced through every lie.

My stepfather, Martin Sterling, watched from the front row.

He appeared confused by Vanessa’s cruelty.

But not surprised.

That distinction mattered.

My right hand remained beneath the shawl.

My thumb found the small black transmitter attached to the wheelchair frame.

I pressed it once.

Then I looked toward the luxury yacht anchored offshore.

“You should have looked at the yacht.”

Vanessa straightened.

Her smile weakened.

The wedding music stopped.

Across the water, the yacht’s enormous white sails illuminated.

Blurred financial diagrams appeared first.

Then offshore account pathways.

Transfers.

Shell companies.

Images of signatures.

No readable details from the venue.

Enough structure for everyone to understand what they were seeing.

Adrian stepped away from the altar.

“What is that?”

Federal agents entered from both side aisles.

Guests gasped as dark tactical uniforms moved between the white chairs and blocked the exits.

Vanessa dropped the champagne bottle.

It rolled across the aisle runner.

One agent raised a hand toward Adrian and Martin.

“Step away from the altar.”

Vanessa turned toward me.

For the first time all day, she looked like the one exposed.

I lifted the transmitter from beneath my shawl.

“That was the bait.”

The yacht sails continued glowing behind her.

And Vanessa finally understood the wedding had never been the event I came to witness.
