Chapter 1 - The Woman in Red

CEO Humiliated His Quiet Wife and Took His Mistress to the Gala Until She Arrived in Red Beside the Billionaire Who Controlled His Entire Empire.
Spencer Conway stopped breathing when the black luxury sedan pulled up outside the hotel on Euclid Avenue.
For a moment, the Apex Group annual gala seemed to forget itself.
Crystal chandeliers glowed through the hotel entrance.
Marble columns reflected warm gold light.
Reporters waited behind velvet ropes.
Executives and investors turned with practiced smiles that slowly dissolved into shock.
Then Phoebe Conway stepped out.
Not the quiet wife Spencer had left at home.
Not the woman he had told to stay away because she would embarrass him.
Phoebe emerged in a spectacular crimson evening gown, diamond necklace shining at her throat, jeweled brooch at her waist, blonde curls falling over her shoulders like she had walked out of a life he never knew she owned.
Her hand rested lightly on the arm of Raymond Harrell.
The Raymond Harrell.
Silver hair.
Black three-piece tuxedo.
Calm billionaire authority.
A man whose money could move entire companies without raising his voice.
Four security men in black suits stood behind them.
Spencer took one stunned step forward.
“Phoebe… what are you doing here?”
Paisley Daley stood beside him in a gold satin gown, champagne glass trembling in her hand.
Phoebe stopped in front of Spencer.
She lifted her champagne flute slightly but did not drink.
“You said I would embarrass you.”
Spencer glanced toward the investors watching from the entrance.
Raymond stepped half a pace ahead and placed a protective hand over Phoebe’s.
“My daughter could never embarrass me.”
The room changed.
Paisley’s face went pale.
“Mr. Harrell… you own Apex’s largest fund.”
Spencer turned sharply toward Raymond.
Then Phoebe gently removed her hand from her father’s arm and looked directly at the husband who had brought his mistress to her place.
“Not anymore.”
The ballroom doors closed quietly behind security.
Spencer’s face drained of color.
May you like
Phoebe walked past him into the gala, and the guests parted like an empire had just learned where its foundation really was.
