The story ended inside the luxury hotel on Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, beneath crystal chandeliers and warm marble light, with reporters frozen behind their cameras and guests standing aside in stunned silence.
Phoebe Conway walked into the Apex Group annual gala in her jeweled crimson gown, diamond necklace bright at her throat, champagne flute steady in one hand.
Her face was composed.
Elegant.
Controlled.
But beneath the calm lived every private insult Spencer had mistaken for harmless.
Raymond Harrell walked beside her in his black three-piece tuxedo, silver watch chain glinting, pride in his expression and authority in every step.
Security closed the ballroom doors behind them with quiet precision.
Spencer remained near the entrance in his black tuxedo, face drained of color. His hand hung at his side where Paisley’s fingers had been moments earlier.
