Paisley Daley knew wealth.
She could identify it in watches, tailoring, wine lists, floral budgets, and the tone of a concierge who had been warned to say yes.
But Raymond Harrell was not ordinary wealth.

Phoebe reached the main ballroom entrance.
Guests parted.
Reporters lifted cameras.
No readable text appeared anywhere, only flashes, faces, and the silent hunger of people watching a scandal form.
Raymond leaned slightly toward his daughter.
“Are you steady?”
Phoebe’s smile was faint.
“I’ve been steady for years.”
His expression softened for one second.
Then hardened again as he looked toward Spencer.
That was the thing Spencer had not prepared for.
A father’s pride backed by financial power.
A husband could dismiss a wife in private.
A CEO could not dismiss the woman who arrived beside his largest funder.
Paisley stepped closer to Spencer again, but the movement lacked confidence.
A moment earlier, being seen with him meant status.
Now it meant being photographed beside a mistake.
She whispered, “Fix this.”
Spencer stared at Phoebe’s back.
He had told her she would embarrass him.
