PART 1

“He dropped divorce papers on her lap beside their premature twins… and seconds later, her billionaire grandfather turned the whole hospital against him.”

Audrey Vale was still bleeding through the edge of her hospital gown when Dominic walked into the neonatal recovery suite with divorce papers in one hand and his pregnant mistress on the other arm.

Her twins were barely two days old.

Tiny.

Fragile.

Wrapped in white hospital blankets against her chest.

Their little mouths opened and closed like they were still learning the rules of air.

Audrey had not slept since the emergency delivery.

She had not even held both babies at once until that morning.

Then Dominic entered wearing a black suit and a smile made of cruelty.

Natalie stood beside him in a red dress, one hand resting on her swollen belly.

Audrey noticed the coat first.

Her coat.

A custom cream maternity coat her grandfather had sent when she was six months pregnant.

Natalie wore it draped over her shoulders like a trophy.

Dominic tossed the divorce papers onto Audrey’s lap.

The pages slid against the blanket covering the twins.

“I emptied the joint accounts.”

“You and these runts are on your own.”

A nurse gasped.

Audrey’s arms tightened around her babies.

The word runts hit harder than the surgery pain.

Natalie smiled uneasily and touched the coat.

“He said you wouldn’t need the coat anymore.”

Audrey looked at Dominic.

Then at Natalie.

Then at the phone beside her pillow.

She had already made the call ten minutes before they arrived.

Not to a lawyer.

Not to a friend.

To the only man in America who could make an entire hospital change its breathing.

Her grandfather.

Walter Vale.

Founder of Vale Medical Holdings.

Owner of Saint Aurelia’s private hospital network.

The man whose name was carved into the donor wall downstairs.

The doors opened.

A silver-haired man in a charcoal suit entered like a storm that had learned manners.

His eyes went first to Audrey.

Then to the twins.

Then to Dominic’s hand reaching toward the papers on her lap.

Walter crossed the room in three strides and struck Dominic so hard the divorce papers flew into the air.

“Take your filthy hands off my family!”

Dominic stumbled sideways.

Natalie screamed.

Doctors froze.

Nurses stepped back.

Walter stood beside Audrey’s bed like a wall.

Audrey lifted her tear-streaked face.

Her voice was weak.

But it carried.
